الملخص

A yield trial of 16 varieties of six-row and two-row barley was conducted at Al-Kufra Agriculture Project under the arid conditions of the Libyan desert. The highest yielding varieties were Brie 65, Numar and California Mariout with an average grain yield of 6.543, 5.107 and 4.953 tons/ha, respectively. The difference in yield between Brie 65 and California Mariout was significant (L.S.D 5 % = 1.375 tons/ha.). Also, the two-row varieties, Libya 4 and Libya 2 varied significantly in respect to their yielding capacities. Their average grain yields were 4.880 and 3.358 tons/ha, respectively.
The weight of 1,000 grains of both Libya 4 and Libya 2 (51.60 and 51.23 gm respectively) was the highest among the 16 varieties studied. On the other hand. Numar and Brie 65 were the lowest in respect to the wt. of 1.000 grains (35.62 and 35.25 gm, respectively).
