Overview

Vegetable cultivars is from the compulsory courses in this department. it studies basic subjects: definition the main terms, the methods to divide the varieties of vegetables, Characteristics of good varieties and methods of distinguishing between varieties, methods used in quality assessment, study the specifications of varieties according to the purpose of cultivation, and finally, study of some vegetable crops as models.

Intended learning outcomes

Successfully completing the course, the student will be able to:

•Explains the scientific basis for dividing the different vegetable crops and some terms, and scientific methods to differentiate between different varieties and methods of testing them.

•Describes methods of distinguishing between varieties and their distinctive characteristics, especially in terms of manufacturing.

•Explains the scientific basis for methods of selecting varieties and verifying their properties. On the other hand, it determines how to preserve good locally grown varieties and methods of their reproduction.

  1. Theoretical lectures and field visits.
  2. •Laboratory activities to identify the varieties of some of the available vegetable families.
  3. •Theoretical and practical scientific reports, in addition to presenting websites and programs on the network.
  4. •View the available laboratory capabilities and their uses
