Overview

This course aims to identify the meaning and characteristics of giftedness, creativity, and excellence, and related theories and applications. It also aims to develop positive attitudes towards upbringing and educating the gifted and creative. The course helps students to develop teaching skills for the gifted and talented, and to create educational programmes for them, which includes comprehensive school enrichment. It also identifies methods for identifying talented and creative people and highlights the role of civil society in nurturing them.

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the students will be able to:

1. Get acquainted with the methods and tools for identifying talented and creative people

2. Distinguish the most important types of study programmes for gifted and creative children

3. Compare the similarities and differences between talent, mental excellence, creativity and intelligence

4. Recognize the needs of gifted and creative children

5. Show how to overcome the problems of gifted and creative children

6. Infer the characteristics of a teacher of gifted and creative children

7. Associate obstacles to talent and creativity in terms of family, school and society

8. Discusses the needs of gifted and creative children

9. Analyse the problems of gifted and creative children and how to overcome them

10. Diagnose the gifted and creative child

11. Apply and evaluate knowledge of the problems of gifted and creative children

12. Design programmes to meet the needs of gifted and creative children

13. Employ similarities and differences between talent, mental excellence, creativity, and intelligence

14. Use appropriate methods to overcome the problems of gifted and creative children

15. Use computers and search engines in learning course vocabulary

16. Communicate oral and written information

17. Make presentations on course topics

18. Respect the opinions of others and work well in a team
