Overview

This course covers concepts related to measurement processes, familiarity with skills and conditions required to apply the test or scale in special needs education. The course also tackles students’ ability to interpret test results and whether to rely on them in making educational decisions.

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the students will be able to:

1. Recognise the principles of psychological measurement and the basic concepts of measurement.

2. Enumerate the elements of the measurement process and relate them to each other.

3. Classify individual differences in special needs education, as well as the mental functions in cerebral structure.

4. Determine the methods of measurement and diagnosis in special needs education.

5. Be familiar with personality measures and intelligence tests.

6. Differentiate between types of psychological tests.

7. Determine the objectives of measurement in special needs education.

8. Be able to compare the uses of psychological tests.

9. Discuss the measurement methods and diagnosis in special needs education.

10. Interpret and analyse personality scales and intelligence tests.

11. Use the common measurement standards in special needs education.

12. Apply psychological tests, both mental and personal.

13. Extract IQ scores from psychological tests.

14. Employ and design methods of measurement and diagnosis in special needs education.

15. Apply and evaluate knowledge of personality scales and intelligence tests.

16. Communicate orally and in writing and respect the opinions of others.

17. Work in teams and have team spirit.

18. Use of information technology and the Internet to review course vocabulary.
