Overview

The objective of the applied teaching course is to prepare the students for teaching practice by providing opportunities to practice teaching in various ways (teaching methods) within the college. This will equip students with the necessary skills in preparation for teaching practice on the one hand, and for real teaching on the other. Through this course, the students apply (or train on) various modern teaching methods (according to specialization) covered during General Teaching Methods and Specialised Teaching Methods, including giving lessons, planning the lesson, preparing questions, discussing, designing exams, and correcting them, dealing with students, assessment and evaluation, class management, use of educational technology, and all other skills and tasks that the teacher performs in all psychological, behavioural and scientific aspects. This course also includes organizing visits for students to centres and institutions for people with special needs.

Intended learning outcomes

    Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

    At the end of the course, the students will be able to:

    1. Recognize some of the teaching skills necessary for the profession of teaching people with special needs.

    2. Be acquainted with the basics and rules of classroom and time management.

    3. Ask class questions that raise thinking among the special needs group.

    4. Know the steps of writing a plan for a treatment program for people with special needs.

    5. To distinguish and correct errors resulting from a disability for students with special needs.

    6. Demonstrate how to apply some effective teaching strategies.

    7. Compare teaching aids with criteria for selecting them.

    8. To explain the different assessment methods suitable for students with special needs.

    9. Analyse some of the teaching skills necessary for teaching people with special needs.

    10. Propose rules for class conduct and time management by asking class questions that raise thinking among the special needs group.

    11. Criticize the steps for writing a treatment plan for people with special needs.

    12. Distinguish and correct student's errors resulting from a disability for students with special needs.

    13. Discuss how to apply effective teaching strategies.

    14. Discover educational means and criteria considered when choosing them.

    15. Explain the different assessment methods suitable for students with special needs.

    16. Design a daily lesson plan for some specific lessons intended for people with special needs

    17. Provide examples of educational goals (cognitive, skilful, and emotional).

    18. To diagnose and correct the mistakes made by colleagues when performing practical lessons inside the classroom.

    19. Design innovative teaching aids to accompany the set textbook.

    20. Apply teaching strategies that suit people with special needs.

    21. Prepare teaching aids using set criteria for their selection.

    22. Employ an appropriate time schedule for students with special needs.

    23. Be aware of task time when assigning educational activities.

    24. Apply different communication methods (such as Braille, and sign language) to teach different classes.

    25. Resolve educational problems to raise student performance.

    26. Work in groups to achieve common goals.

    27. Conduct self- and continuous learning.
