The Faculty of Science was established in 1957 in Tripoli with five departments: Zoology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Botany, and some statistics courses at the time were taught to students under the supervision of the Department of Mathematics until 1978, when an independent department of statistics was established to teach its courses in addition to teaching statistics to other departments and colleges at the university.
