Roles

Professor Samira Mohamed El-Ayati has been working as a faculty member in the Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts, for more than 26 years, and she is now a professor. Ms. Samira conducts scientific research related to population phenomena, in addition to teaching in the department at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It supports the research process within the department, college and university.

Careers

    Before joining the University of Tripoli, Ms. Samira worked at the beginning of her educational career as a teacher in secondary education, after studying at the University of Tripoli, from which she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Geography in 1986, and she worked as a teaching assistant in the department since 1988 until she obtained a master’s degree in behavioral geography in 1996 from the University of Tripoli, and worked as a faculty member in the department, and obtained a PhD in Population Geography from the Pantheon - Sorbonne University in France in 2007, and is she still working in the geography department with a professorship.

During her professional career, Ms. Samira held many jobs, as she worked as a member of the Study and Examinations Committee in the department between 1993 and 1996. After that, she worked as a coordinator for studies and examinations in the department as well between 1999 and 2001 and as a coordinator for affiliation students in the Faculty of Arts in 2009. She was also chosen to be the president. For the Study and Examination Committee for Distance Education at the University of Tripoli in 2010. 

 

Research Interests

Professor Samira is interested in the following research topics:

·         Focusing on everything related to the population phenomenon and its relationship to development and planning in Arab and foreign societies.

·         Special interest in future migration (preferences for future residence), whether within the scope of one city or between urban centers, or international migration, by following the behavioral approach.

·         Focusing on the process of environmental awareness among the different groups of society.

·         Paying attention to the topic of mental maps to understand the mental perceptions of the population.

External Activities

Professor Samira has worked in many committees and associations that are related to her field of work. She has been working as a general coordinator of social activity in the Administrative Committee of the Libyan Geographical Society since 2010, She is in charge of scientific affairs and conferences in the Libyan Geographical Society as well. She was also a member of the special committees of many scientific conferences related to her specialization. The most important of which is the fifteenth geographical conference 2021, at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts, Sirte University, in cooperation with the Libyan Geographical Society, as a rapporteur for the committee, and the sixteenth geographical conference 2022, at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts, University of Tobruk, in cooperation with the Libyan Geographical Society, as head of the Scientific Committee.

 Professor Samira works as a member of the editorial board of the Journal of the Libyan Geographical Society, and she is a member of the advisory committee of the Journal of the Libyan Geographical Society, Central Region Branch. She also worked as a collaborating professor with: the College of Arts, Al-Zawiya University, between 1996-1998, and the College of Education, Western Mountain University (Yefran) between 1996 and 1998. 1997 - 1998 and the Higher Institute for the Preparation of Teachers, Tripoli 1997.

 Professor Samira is a member of the Faculty Members Union at the University of Tripoli, and she is a member of the Libyan Geographical Society. She was a member of the scientific committee of the first scientific symposium for youth in July 1429 AD. She was also a member of the Libyan delegation to discuss with the Italian Parliament delegation by a decision of the Secretariat of the General People’s Congress No. (5) for the year 1431 AD, and she is a founding member of the Friendship Association between Libyan and French Women - in Paris, 2005. She is also a founding member of the Down Syndrome Association, 2000, and a founding member of the National Group of Academies, University of Tripoli 2012.

She worked as a consultant at the Secretariat of Social Affairs at the Secretariat of the General People's Congress 1999-2002. She also participated in setting up the statute of the Arab Federation of Science Clubs for Youth. She also prepared maps for geographical curricula for the basic education stage, based on a commission from the Ministry of Education, Curriculum Department, 2009.
