Roles

Lamya Mohammed Sharf  Edden is a faculty member of the Department of History, Faculty of Arts, University of Tripoli. As a specialist in Islamic History, she taught a number of courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students (master's degree). In the bachelor's degree she taught: History of Islamic Maghreb, History of the Umayyad State, History of Science among Arabs, History of Medieval Europe, Introduction to History, Documents and manuscripts, English Historical Terminology and Texts, History of Arab-Islamic civilization, Supervision of Graduation Researches. In postgraduate (higher/master's degree), she taught the following courses: Advanced methodology, Themes of intellectual life in the Arab Islamic State

In addition to her teaching tasks, Mrs. Lamya Mohammed Sharf Edden assumed a number of additional tasks within her department. She was a member of the Scientific Committee of the Department (2013-2015), a member of the Cultural Committee of the College of Literature (2014), coordinator of Arab Islamic Civilization and General Materials of the Department of History (2014-2015), Head of the Department of History (2017-2019) and Quality Coordinator (2021-...), also she evaluate and discuss master theses and evaluate works submitted for publication and promotion.

Careers

Mrs. Lamya started her work in the Department of History as a Teaching Assistant on 3 September 1993. After obtaining her master's degree in 1997, she worked in the Department as an assistant lecturer during 1997-2001 years. She was dispatched in November 2001 by the University of Tripoli to France to obtain PHD.  After her return in 2013, she joined the Department again. She is currently working as an Assistant Professor since 2016.

Research Interests

Mrs. Lamya's research interests include Islamic History and Maghreb Islamic History in particular, in its social and economic fields. She also has an interest in Medieval European History. In the field of research, she has several publications, including books and articles published in national and Arab peer-reviewed journals; in addition she translates works from French.

External Activities

Mrs. Lamya Mohammed Sharf Edden has contributed on several occasions to the activities of the University of Tripoli. She was a cooperating translator at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (French section) in 2013-2014, and is currently an expert collaborator at the Center for Research and Educational Programs of the Ministry of Education since 2019. She is a member of the editorial board of the series Libya Islamica (dedicated to Libya's Medieval History) published by Brill .
