Endocrine & diabetes  experience:

SHO experience: 

I had experience as registrar in ward duties & endocrine & diabetic clinic .

 During this period I gained valuable experience in the management of severe DKA , adrenal crisis , thyroid storm , cases newly discovered diabetes mellitus ,cases with prolonged neonatal jaundice ,  neonate with ambigoues genitalia , pick up cases with precoucioe puberty , turner syndromes,   

Registrar level experience:

During the first two years I had as a registrar at endocrine & diabetes department  at Tripoli Medical Center which is a busy tertiary peadiatric endocrine & diabetes center , during which I shared the duties with the rest of the registrar team. This post gave me the opportunity to consolidate and improve my clinical experience in various aspects of endocrinology & diabetology . I have become competent in management of diabetic & endocrine cases . I also gained experience in performing  ultrasound of the thyroid gland and abdominal ultrasound .

In  2002 I have became specialist  in this a busy tertiary level diabetic & endocrine centre. I am enjoying the training at this unit as a great chance to build up my  experience specially managing  children & adolescent with diabetes  type 1 also type 2 , as well as endocrine cases including  thyroid diseases which includes( congenital or acquired  hypothyroidism , hyperthyroidism , thyroid hormone resistant syndrome ,graves disease  , as well as thyroid tumour  , adrenal gland disorders such as (congenital adrenal hyperplasia , adrenal insufficiency , adreno-leukodystrophy , allgrove syndrome and adrenal tumour ) adreno-genital syndrome , testicular feminasition syndrome primary gonadel failure or secondary gonadel   failure , , short stature , growth hormone deficiency , panhypopituitaryism   abnormal puberty delayed or precocious , simple obesity , or related to  syndromes like prader wille syndrome or loranse moon pedal syndrome ,down syndrome , metabolic syndrome ,psudohypoparathyrodism , true hypoparathyrodism , caushing disease and syndromes ,  skeletal dysplasia , osteogenises emperfectia ,

we picked up a rare syndrome such as klippel traunany weber syndrome ,klippel fill syndrome , nonane syndrome , turner syndrome , disgorge syndrome, russel silver syndrome ,laron syndrome corenella de lange syndrome  , Mc cune Albright syndrome , murac syndrome , neurofibromatosis syndrome ,  tubers sclerosis , sturge weber syndrome , brain tumour or cases secondary to radiotherapy or surgery applied for them , cases with chronic renal failure , .... I also joined my consultant during speaking to the parents either to counsel them or to break the bad news specially discussing about chronic long life disease .

. I am  a member of the team involves two Professors and two consultants and two   specialist  is a referral centre for the diabetic and endocrine cases  from different areas of north, western, southern , and middle parts of Libya   . During this period I was responsible on receiving the new referrals, arranging for admission if needs, information collection, and growth assessment under supervision of the consultants as well as investigations and MRI  if needed . I also was able to participate in running average of two to three clinics a week under supervision of my paediatric endocrinology & diabetology consultant Including  growth assessment and detailed in tanner staging  assessment, clinical assessment characters of some disease or syndromes  . I also attended and presented in the regular weekly discuss the endocrine cases findings with Prof S. A busrewil  and try to link them with the clinical findings and discuss the expected outcome.

During this period also I was responsible in writing medical reports which then get assessed and counter signed by the endocrinology & diabetology professors .

In   2008 , I have been started to teach medical students in 5th year about general paediatric  , then in October 2010 i have been become one of the member teaching staff in Tripoli University , Faculty Of  Medicine , paediatric

 General Paediatric Experience:

SHO experience:

 I worked as a paediatric SHO at General Paediatrics. During that period I became familiar with general Paediatric ward work. I covered Paediatric ambulatory unit and A&E in a busy  area. I improved my skills in resuscitating and treating acutely ill children. I also gained experience in prioritising a busy workload and had the opportunity to be a member of a multidisciplinary team that practices evidence based medicine.

  Registrar experience:

 I continued my  work  as registrar for further 7 years in general Paediatric (cross cover with neonate) during this period I have gained experience in managing acutely ill children, Child protection cases recognition and management, communication skills…etc.

I have also participated in running different general and neonatal joined out patients’ clinics under supervision of consultants.

   I have gained higher level of general and sub specialty  Paediatric experience.

 Tripoli Medical Centre paediatric department  is one of busy regional hospitals with variety of cases. It also runs service tertiary hospitals. This includes, Children with: Diabetes, endocrine ,  asthma , Cystic fibrosis,  GORD , congenital emphysema,   Oncology & haematology cases ,  immundeficient cases paediatric  nephrology , paediatric gastroenrology besides the general paediatric cases either in acute situations , admitted in the wards, or as out patient.

 Also  Paediatrics  Endocrine & Diabetes  clinic gave me the opportunity to have insight into different behavioral conditions, e.g.: ADHD, Autism , Sleep disorders related to obstructive sleep apnea , different types of depression .

 Oncology Unit:

I have done  one year in Paediatric Oncology/ Haematology department. During which I was widely exposed to different oncology / Haematology cases. I have also performed different invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as: bone marrow aspiration, bone trephine biopsy and administration of Intra-thecal chemotherapy.

I am keen to gain higher level of experience in field of paediatrics generally and endocrine & diabetes in particular..  I am also hopeful to  continue join the medical university teaching team to  participate in facilitating Medical education process and quality of medical care in Libya.
