About Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering

The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering was established in 1961. It is one of the first engineering departments in Libyan universities. The department kept pace with the development of industry and the needs of society for engineers in this field. Since its inception, it has worked to graduate many qualified engineers who were the cornerstone of the manufacturing and production process.

The department includes three divisions: the Power Division, the Industrial Engineering and Production Division, and the Applied Mechanics Division; The Power Division is concerned with everything related to energy and its use techniques, including theories and techniques of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, refrigeration and air conditioning, power stations, internal combustion machines, solar energy, wind energy, water desalination, pumping machines, and so on. While the Industrial Engineering and Production Division specializes in studying, planning and evaluating different production methods and finding the best means to produce a product that conforms to specifications by monitoring and controlling quality in the various stages of production while conducting economic feasibility studies for it; The Division of Applied Mechanics is concerned with the mechanical (structural) design of various mechanical systems and parts in cars, elevators, power stations, oil refineries, handling systems, production machines, robots, and others. This division is also concerned with studying methods of reducing the impact of vibrations and noise, and is also concerned with means and techniques of automatic control and computer design.
