Abstract

This research deals with the life and upbringing of the thinker and linguist Ahmed Fares Al-Shidyaq, who is from Lebanon. He obtained his initial education in the village and schools in which he was born. He later worked as a copyist, as his hobby was the acquisition and reading of books, where the work formed his first beginnings in making the path of his intellectual and linguistic project .     Ahmed Fares Al-Shidyaq traveled between a number of countries. He visited Egypt and had a relationship with its governor, Muhammad Ali Pasha, where he worked in the Egyptian Al-Waqa’i newspaper, which was supervised by Rifa’a Al-Tahtawi’s editor, then moved to Tunisia and worked in Al-Raed Al-Tunisi newspaper. He founded Al-Jawa’ib newspaper after Astana requested him, as his newspaper was a political news paper full of East and West news, and he prepared its own printing press for it. Ahmed Faris Al-Shidyaq wrote a number of books, including books representing his travels in Europe. His most famous book, “The Leg on the Leg,” is one of his most famous linguistic books. He also authored a number of linguistic and literary books. He wrote poetry during his life. Al-Shidyaq moved in Europe and visited London and Paris. Then he returned to Astana and stayed there until the last days of his life, then he died and his body was taken to Lebanon and buried in Hazmieh as he recommended.
