Dr. Mahmood Al-Bahlol Ammar Shanta, got his PhD from the University of Sheffield in 2008, has been working as a full-time faculty member since obtaining his Master's degree in Plant Physiological Ecology in 2000 from the Faculty of Science, University of Malaya, Malaysia. Over the period of more than twenty years, Dr. Mahmood Al-Shanta has carried out many scientific activities, such as teaching many courses related to plant and range ecology sciences for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the department. He has also held many positions at the level of the Department of Rangelands and Forests and the faculty of Agriculture. Among them:

 1. Head of the Department of Rangelands and Forests, University of Tripoli, Faculty of Agriculture (2022 - present)

2. Coordinator of the Department of Natural Resources / Faculty of Agriculture - University of Tripoli: Academic year 2015-2022

3. Member of the Graduate Studies and Training Committee at the Department of Rangelands and Forests, University of Tripoli, Faculty of Agriculture (April 2019 to date).

4. Member of the Graduates Committee at the Faculty of Agriculture (2015 - 2016)

5. Member of the Disciplinary Committee at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Tripoli (2016 - 2017).

Research Interests

Associate Professor: Dr. Mahmood Al-Bahlol Al-Shanta has more than twenty years of experience in the field of plant ecology. His research interests include studying drought stress on germination and growth of forest plants and the impact of climate change on plant diversity in grassland environments. Dr. Mahmood Al-Bahlol Al-Shanta is also interested in seed germination studies of forest tree seedlings. His interests also include environmental and botanical surveys and ecological studies of plant communities, in addition to teaching many courses related to ecology and plant ecology for undergraduate students. Dr. Mahmood is currently teaching in the graduate program in the Department of Rangeland and Forestry.

External Activities

During his work at the university, Dr. Mahmoخd Al-Bahlol Shanta contributed to many scientific programs and activities with many local institutions concerned with environmental, rangeland and forest affairs. Among these contributions:

1. Member of the Scientific Committee for the Study of the Environmental Impacts of Quarries in the Central Region of Libya (2013-2014).

2. Chairman of the Academic Program Development Committee for the College of Natural Resources at Al-Jafara University (2019-2020).

3. Review and scientific evaluation of a number of scientific research papers for many local scientific journals.
