Research Interests

Translation and culture .By focusing on one aspect of language which always makes the translators at Translation Agencies in Tripoli face problems in translation English Idioms into Arabic.

 

Abstract

This paper is an attempt to investigate the relationship between culture, language and translation and the implication of culture on translation. By focusing on one aspect of language which always makes the translators at Translation Agencies in Tripoli, Libya face problems due to cultural differences. One of these problems is:

The translation of English idioms into Arabic.

At the level of this point I am going to:

Divide this study into two parts .The theoretical part of it focuses on the relationship between culture, language and translation .By focusing on the translation of English idioms into Arabic by giving the definition of idioms, then to discuss the different types of idioms and how they can deal with i.e. by giving the difficulties and the strategies to render it. As for practical part I will give seven sentences from different text to five translators at Translation Agencies in Tripoli, to translate them, and then I will use data collection procedures involving the use of the translators' written translation were carried out. Later, the data were analyzed with reference to misinterpretations and mistranslations. In other words, the basic method of investigation was through a collection and analysis of the translators' written translations.
