Roles

Manar currently works as a teaching assistant in the English Department at the University of Tripoli where she teaches and supervises English majors. Manar utilizes interactive teaching techniques and integrates technology into the language teaching process. She is also involved in student activities, having planned, coordinated, and supervised a diverse student cultural week organized by the English Department in spring term of 2024 in collaboration with other departments and colleges at the University of Tripoli, Campus B. In fall term of 2023, Manar established the English Cafe, a student club run by a group of volunteering student  under her supervision. Since then, the cafe has organized weekly sessions where interested students can practice English in a comfortable environment outside of classroom settings.

Careers

After six years of teaching Business Communication and Research and Writing Methods courses to undergraduate students at the American University of Leadership in Libya, Manar taught and currently teaches four different grammar modules, some comprehension and conversation courses, in addition to many other subjects to English majors at the University of Tripoli. Manar also previously worked as an international translator, translating official documents for the United Nations Development Programme in Libya. Before that, she worked as a clerical marker for the British Council, where she was responsible for marking the listening and reading sections of the IELTS exam.

Research Interests

Manar has an excellent background in language teaching, learning, and acquisition in general. In one of her research projects, she conducted a comprehensive study on improving the teaching of modern languages ​​to language students at the University of Tripoli, drawing on international theories and modern methods of teaching and learning English as a foreign language. Manar is also broadly interested in communication, intercultural studies, and linguistics. Her master's thesis was a comparative study of the linguistic aspects used in some political media interviews from a sociolinguistic perspective.

External Activities

After working with the American University of Leadership in Libya, Manar gained extensive experience and expertise in Business Communication. Her teaching topics included: communication theories, achieving successful intercultural communication particularly in business, and writing professional business reports and letters. Manar consistently drew upon her academic background in her teaching by integrating topics from psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics and exploring their relevance to successful communication and business at both the international and national levels. Her students were always highly engaged and ultimately very satisfied with the courses Manar taught and the teaching methods she employed.

Currently, Manar is passionate about engaging university students in meaningful activities and volunteer programs that foster teamwork, time management, communication, and multitasking skills. Manar has not only established the English Cafe for practicing English as she has also founded Theory Talk, a club run by a group of student volunteers under her supervision. This club aims to present in-depth topics for discussion among students in both Arabic and English. The goal of Thoery Talk is to utilize the free time students have between lectures in meaningful discussions that expand their knowledge and refine their debating skills. In addition to English Cafe and Theory Talk, Manar has also put together a Student Club which includes a  group of outstanding students who plan, brainstorm, and coordinate numerous student activities implemented under her guidance.
