Roles
Manar is currently a lecturer at the English Language Department in the University of Tripoli. She supervises and teaches English specialization students using interactive teaching techniques and incorporating technology into the language teaching process. Manar is also interested in student events and activities; she planned, arranged, supervised and managed Students Cultural Week in Spring 2024 which was in collaboration with many other departments and faculties within the University. Manar also established the English Café which runs every semester since Fall 2023. The Café was deigned to give students a chance to practice English in a friendly relaxed environment away from classroom settings.
Careers
After six years of teaching Business Communication and Research and Writing courses to undergraduate students at the American University of Leadership in Libya, Manar taught and still teaches Grammar to different level students, Listening and Reading Comprehension Units, Listening and Conversation in addition to other courses to English Language specialisation students at the University of Tripoli. She also worked as an international translator translating very important confidential documents for the United Nations Development Program. Before that, she was a Clerical Marker with the British Council, responsible for marking Listening and Reading parts of the IELTS exam.
Research Interests
Manar has an excellent background in teaching and learning languages and language acquisition. She has conducted a comprehensive study on improving the system of teaching languages to language specialization students at Tripoli University reflecting on theories in TEFL, language learning and task based language teaching. Manar is, also, particularly interested in communication, culture and linguistics. Her MA study thesis was a comparative study examining linguistic aspects used in political media interviews from a sociolinguistic perspective.
External Activities
Having been a lecturer at the American University of Leadership in Libya, Manar became more experienced and knowledgeable in Business Communication. The topics she taught explored communication theories, cross-cultural communication, writing business reports and messages, and corporate communication. Manar constantly reflected on her academic background during her teaching by incorporating topics from psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics and how these relate to successful business communication in international settings. The students were always very interested and eventually very pleased with Manar's courses and teaching techniques.
