Roles
Muftah Ali Dakhil has been working as a faculty member in the Department of Geography, College of Arts, for more than 30 years. He is now a professor. He conducts scientific research related to maps and the process of environmental perception among different groups of society, in addition to teaching in the department at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He supports the research process within The department, college, and university, and he also has many scientific roles. He is the editor-in-chief of the Libyan Geographical Society Magazine, and he is a member of the advisory committee of the Libyan Geographical Society Magazine, Central Region Branch. He also worked as a collaborating professor with: the College of Education, Al-Khoms University, the College of Education, Gharyan University, the College of Arts, Al-Zawiya University, and the Academy Postgraduate studies, Tripoli.
Careers
Before joining the University of Tripoli, Dr. Muftah worked at the beginning of his educational career at the Ministry of Education after studying at the University of Tripoli, from which he obtained a bachelor’s degree in geography in 1975. He worked as a teaching assistant in the Geography Department at the University of Benghazi in 1979, and obtained a master’s degree in geography in 1984 from the United States. University of California (Calif. State Univ. Chico), and obtained a doctorate in maps from the University of Univ. of Kentucky, Lexington) in the United States in 1989, and after his return he worked in the Geography Department at the University of Tripoli, where he continues to work with the rank of professor since September 4, 2015.
During his professional career, Dr. Muftah held many positions. He worked as Head of the Geography Department, Faculty of Education, University of Tripoli from 10/1993 to 12/1999, then Director of the Office of Cultural Cooperation, University of Tripoli from 11/2001 to 9/2003, Founder and Head of the Geography Department at the Academy of Studies. Olaya, Tripoli from 2004 to 2009. He was also chosen to be Director of the Department of Universities and Higher Institutes at the General People’s Committee for Higher Education during the period 2008-2009, and after that he worked as an advisor to the National Committee for Universities from 2009 to 2010.
Research Interests
Dr. Muftah is interested in the following research topics:
1. Focus on future population migration, whether within a single city, between urban centers, or international migration, by following the behavioral approach.
2. Focus on the process of environmental awareness among different segments of society (such as age, gender, profession, and others).
3. Interest in the tourism industry, whether in relation to the natural and human components, sources of information affecting tourists, as well as the role that tourists play in promoting this type of industry.
External Activities
The doctor has worked in many committees and scientific societies related to his field of work. He has served as Vice President of the Libyan Geographical Society since 2010 until now. He has also been Chairman of the committees of many scientific conferences related to his specialty, the most important of which is a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Conference on Electronic Management in 2010. And the Chairman of the Preparatory and Scientific Committee for the Libya Day for Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing at the eighth session of the International Conference Geotons in the city of Hammamet, Tunisia, April 2-6, 2014, and the Chairman of the Scientific Committee at the Fifteenth Geographical Conference 2021, organized by the Geography Department at the Faculty of Arts, University of Sirte, in cooperation with the Libyan Geographical Society.
He also has many external scientific roles. He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Libyan Geographical Society. He is a member of the advisory committee of the Journal of the Libyan Geographical Society, Central Region Branch. He also worked as a collaborating professor with: the College of Education, Al-Khoms University, the College of Education, Gharyan University, the College of Arts, Zawia University, and the Academy of Graduate Studies, Tripoli.
