Dr. AbdelFatah Tumi recently joined the College of Economics and Management. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting, teaching the following accounting courses during the last semester and the current semester: Department and Branch Accounting, Cost Accounting, and Managerial Accounting. In addition, he is involved in academic advising and, along with some of his colleagues, engages in research activities

Careers

Abdelfatah Tumi worked in both the private and public sectors during his nearly 40-year career. He began early by teaching accounting at a vocational institute for two years, before working as an accountant at the Ministry of Justice for 11 years. Additionally, he worked as an accountant and auditor on a part-time basis. He earned a Master’s degree in Accounting in January 2005 and was appointed as an Assistant Lecturer in the Accounting Department at Azzaytuna University in 2006. He was sent abroad to continue his studies and obtained his PhD from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2014. He returned to his role in the Accounting Department as a lecturer and also collaborated with several educational institutions, gaining experience in the field of quality in the educational process and accreditation requirements according to Libyan standards. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2018 and to Associate Professor in 2022. During this period, he held several positions, including Quality Coordinator in the Accounting Department, Head of the Accounting Department, and Coordinator of Graduate Studies. In January 2025, he joined the Accounting Department at the Faculty of Economics and Administration at the University of Tripoli.

Research Interests

Professor Abdelfatah has several research papers covering various topics, including accounting measurement and fair value, accounting education, the extent to which legal accountants use information technology in auditing, the impact of changes in audit reports and expectation gaps, accounting disclosure of environmental performance, investment in Islamic banks, accounting disclosure in Islamic banks in Libya, and the compliance of Islamic banks with certain standards.

External Activities

Dr. Abdelfatah Tumi has participated in several scientific conferences and other activities, including his participation in the Advanced Research in Business Conference in Dubai in 2014, the International Conference on Science and Technology in 2019 in Tripoli, the First International Scientific Conference on Islamic Legal Rules and Their Controls in Transactions in Zolton in 2024, and the Conference on Islamic Financial and Banking Activities in Libya, held in the city of Al-Bayda, Libya. Dr. Abdelfattah also serves as a reviewer for scientific research for publication in several academic journals, including the Journal of Economics and Trade, the Academic Forum Journal, the Graduate Studies Journal, the Technology Journal of the Institute of Science and Technology in Missallata, and has worked on several scientific committees, including the committee for the preparation and accreditation of the Department of Islamic Economics at the Faculty of Sharia at the Asmaria University, and the preparatory committee for the Alternative Oil Opportunities Conference at the Faculty of Economics at Azzaytuna University in 2024.
