### The Optimal Economic of X̅ -Chart With Runs

Abstract Quality took a wide interest by many researchers due its importance and ability for achieving the goals of different organizations. However, the quality of production processes affected by many factors which must be monitored. Statistical control charts are considered to be among the best control methods to control the quality of products during the flow of production. -chart is the most applicable chart. It is a diagram consists of three lines: the control line (CL= ) indicates the target quality level ,upper control limit( UCL= )and lower control limit( LCL= -k ). For this chart to be used, it must be designed first which means the determination of: sample size(n), the width of control limits(k)and length of the Sampling interval (h). Despite of its simplicity, -chart is insensitive to detect small deviation in the level of quality characteristic of interest. Many methods were recommended to increase the sensitivity to the chart for small deviation, one of them is a follow 8 points above and below the central line and within the control limits, this approach results an -chart with run of 8 points. This thesis aims to design the -chart with run of 8 points, and then to build models to estimate the parameters (n,k,h) of the chart. The objectives are achieved through the: 1-formulation of the function which relates the aspects of the production process, the characteristics of the chart and the control procedure with its economic consequences. 2-determine the values of the parameters (n,k,h) which minimize the objective function. 3-utilization of the obtained results to form mathematical models which can be used to determine the values of the chart parameters from the economic consequences.

### Student’s Alternative Conceptions of Free-Fall, Speed, Velocity and Acceleration, In High School in Tripoli Libya

The study was conducted to find out the conceptual understanding and misconceptions of students in objects undergoing freely falling motion, speed, velocity and acceleration. Open-ended questions are utilized and are given to three science classes to assess students’ understanding of the most basic concepts in free-fall speed, Velocity, and Acceleration. Results showed that majority of the students in both classes were able to correctly describe the motion of an object in free-fall in terms of velocity. Similar to previous studies, misconceptions were mostly on the acceleration of the object when it is at the highest point of its flight. Further analysis showed that there is no significant difference between the answers of science. Regardless of their concentration, students have the same general misconceptions on free fall speed, Velocity, and Acceleration. The results were analyzed by (SPSS) (subject package for social science) to identify Students’ misconception on free-fall speed, velocity, and acceleration. The findings revealed that most of the students held alternative conceptions of free-fall speed, velocity, and acceleration. ### THE INSTITUTIONAL FACTORS AFFECTING THE ACHIEVEMENT IN PHYSICS IN TRIPOLI, LIBYA

This study primarily attempts to investigate if there is any relationship between selected factors namely gender, school and student factors and academic achievement in physics of high school students in Tripoli, Libya.The sample consisted of 100 science students, 50 males and 50 females from two randomly chosen high schools in Tripoli, Libya. Two instruments were used in the study. The physics achievement test (PAT), was designed to assess student performance in physics. The second was a student questionnaire (SQ), designed to obtain information on personal characteristics of the students, school factors and student factors. The main findings of the study indicae that gender was found to be significantly associated with achievement in physics. Specifically, female students were found to perform better than male students. Among the school factors, the factor which emerged as influencing students' achievement in physics was the teacher factor.
