Dr. Wanisa Ibrahim Ahweelat is  a member in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Tripoli, with the rank of Associate Professor in Bionanotechnology since 8/2023, after more than 15 years as a  lecturer at the University of Sebha, where she was appointed as a teaching assistant in 1999. She has many scientific publications in her field of specialization. Among the tasks she has carried out are

Ø Director of the Graduate Studies Office, Department of Chemistry, University of Sebha, from 2020 to 2022

Ø She was the head of the scientific committee for the development of organic chemistry curricula

Ø Coordinator of the Organic Chemistry Division, Department of Chemical Engineering / University of Tripoli, 2024 until now.

Ø Member of the Scientific Committee supervising the PhD in the Department of Chemistry / Sebha University by decision (728) / 2021

Ø One of the members of the Curriculum Development Committee in the Faculties of Sciences at Libyan universities by decision (630) for the year 2022.

Ø Head of the Scientific Committee for the First International Conference on Nano Sciences and Technology 12/12/2023 organized by the Libyan Authority for Scientific Research

Ø Member of the Scientific Committee for a number of scientific conferences at Sebha University

Ø Participated in several local and international scientific conferences with many scientific researches in the field of nano, and also published several scientific researches in international journals with high impact factors

Ø Participated in the Libya Innovation Award for the year 2022 and its students in the Department of Chemistry / University of Sebha obtained the first and second place at the level of Libya

ØShe was assigned as a consultant for the first nano project in Libya entitled (Study of some unwanted plants that grow in Libya and benefit from them in the manufacture of nanoparticles ) for the year 2024

Careers

·         Graduated from Sebha University (Libya) in April / 1998.

·         Teaching assistant in Sebha University 1999-2005.

·         Collaborator in the laboratory of medical tests Jan /1999-March / 2002 in Sebha laboratory/ Libya.

·         Studying Master in Organic Chemistry April 2002- Dec / 2005

·         Lecturer in Sebha University / Libya from Jan / 2006- Jun / 2012 in College of Science; duties included supervising in the laboratory and teaching organic chemistry; subjects such as synthesis of heterocyclic compounds, bio-application of ligands as an antibiotic. I was also involved in the examination of final year projects.

·         Laboratory Demonstrator at Swansea University/ UK 2014/2017.

·         Demonstrator for 2 undergraduate students in C008 Lab, College of Engineering, Swansea University in 2015.

·         Laboratory Demonstrator for 5 MSc students in C008 Lab, College of Engineering, Swansea University in 2016.

·         Post-Doc in Chemistry department, Swansea University (6-9.2018) with Prof Owen Guy who was my examiner in my Ph.D. Viva.

·         Started work as an assistant professor in Sebha University and cooperative with Chemical engineering / Tripoli University since 1/1/2019 until now.

·         Postgraduate coordinator at Chemistry Department / Sebha University since 1/2/2021 until 12/2022. 

·         Starter a new job as an assistant professor in Chemical Engineering at University of Tripoli since 6/8/2023.

Research Interests

Metal Nanoparticles and Metal Oxide Nanoparticles such as silver,gold, Iron oxide, copperoxide,cadmium oxide nanoparticles. Gold and silvernanoparticles in druge delivery. Copper oxide Nanopartcles in agreculture applications, Cadmium nanoparticles application in enhanced oil recovery, Green synthesis of Metal Nanoparticles using plant extracts or drugs. Metal Nanoparticles as nanocarrier., applications of Nanometerial in Medicine Field, Chemical preparation of nanoparticles using organic ligands,  metal nanocomposites, environmental remediation of NPs. 

External Activities

Doctor Wanisa  has published in a range of peer reviewed, internationally recognised, journals. These include the Faraday Discuss, Journal of Chemical Reviews, Journal of Chemistry, Section A, Chemical Methodologies,Journal of Engineering Research and Application,International Journal of Advanced Biological and Biomedical Research,  Journal of Nano Research, journal of Chemistry (MDPI), and Biointerface Research in Applied  Chemistry. Her research and writing focus on synthesis and functionalized metal and metal oxide nanoparticles and their applications in agriculture and medical field.
