Roles

Professor and researcher in process engineering and chemical engineering, with more than three decades of academic and research experience in Libyan and European universities and research centers, particularly in France. He holds a PhD in process engineering from the University of Lyon 1, and his thesis focused on proposing and evaluating hydrogen separation processes. He is a member of the Libyan Academy of Sciences and the Libyan Academy of Engineering. He has contributed to a large number of advanced research projects in the fields of catalysis, process intensification, chemical reactors, and heat and mass transfer. He has an outstanding scientific record, including numerous publications in prestigious international journals, as well as active participation in international conferences, academic supervision, and university teaching.

Careers

Dr.  SWESI  began his career as a teaching assistant in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Tripoli in 1993, where he participated in teaching basic and laboratory courses. He continued his academic career in France as a doctoral student at the University of Lyon 1 (2002–2005), then held several research and academic positions, working as a postdoctoral researcher at the CNRS laboratories in France in the field of catalytic reactors. He returned to the University of Tripoli as a faculty member and then as head of the Chemical Engineering Department (2013–2015).

Research Interests

Dr. SWESI  research interests focus on chemical process engineering and process intensification, particularly in the areas of heterogeneous catalysis and advanced chemical reactor design. His research includes the development of structured and foamed reactors, the improvement of heat and mass transfer in three-phase systems, and the study of hydrogenation and dehydrogenation reactions. He is also interested in hydrogen separation and purification processes, catalytic treatment of gaseous pollutants such as ozone and NOx, and conversion of biomass into value-added chemicals. In addition, he works on water treatment and boron removal technologies using hybrid membrane and adsorption processes.

External Activities

Dr. SWESI participates in a number of academic and scientific activities outside the University of Tripoli, at both the regional and international levels. He has contributed as an external scientific reviewer for a number of international peer-reviewed journals published by prestigious scientific publishers such as Elsevier, Wiley, and ACS, in the fields of chemical engineering, catalysis, and process engineering
