Professor Dr. Salem Mohamed Moussa works as a professor in the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Tripoli. His primary roles include teaching, academic supervision, and scientific research, in addition to administrative and consulting contributions.His main university responsibilities include leading and developing the department through his former position as head of the department, supervising graduation projects and master's theses, and teaching a wide range of core courses in the field of materials engineering. He also provides specialized engineering consultations to the industry through the university's consulting office, which strengthens the link between the academic environment and the demands of the industrial market.In addition to that, he actively participates in quality and curriculum committees and contributes to the development of national standards as a representative of the university in related bodies.

Dr. Salem began his academic career as a teaching assistant in the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Tripoli, in 1985. After obtaining his Ph.D. from Newcastle University in the United Kingdom in 1996, he returned to the university to hold several academic positions, progressing from lecturer to assistant professor, then associate professor, and finally full professor since 2015.Before fully joining academia, his career was distinguished by combining academic expertise with practical contributions in the engineering field, where he worked on transferring and applying knowledge in real industrial contexts.

Research Interests

Dr. Salem's scientific research is concentrated in applied fields that serve the industrial sector, especially in the areas of:

• Material corrosion and protection methods.
• Welding metallurgy.
• The mechanical and physical behavior of materials.

His research combines a solid theoretical foundation with direct field application, aiming to solve industrial problems in vital sectors such as oil and gas, medicine, and infrastructure. He has published his research in refereed local and international scientific conferences and journals.

Dr. Salem's influence extends beyond the university walls through a variety of prominent external activities:

• Engineering Consultations: Provided specialized consultations to major Libyan industrial companies and institutions, including diagnosing and treating corrosion issues, assessing damages in oil and medical facilities, and conducting feasibility studies for local materials.
• Standardization and Regulatory Bodies: Former member of the National Committee for Standards and Standardization, contributing to the issuance and development of Libyan standard specifications.
• Scientific Peer Review: Served as a reviewer for research papers at specialized scientific conferences.
• Scientific Translation: Translated a series of advanced technical books into Arabic in the fields of materials technology and welding techniques, contributing to the localization of knowledge and enriching Arabic libraries.
