Roles

Ibrahim Almerhag has been a member of the teaching staff of the Faculty of Information Technology - University of Tripoli, in the Networks Department since 2011, as a Professor. I currently occupy the position of dean of the college, and before that I held several positions in different Libyan universities, during which I practiced teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students. I also supervised several graduation projects and master's theses and examined others.After obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Garyounis University (Benghazi) in 1986, I worked as a demonstrator in the Computer Science Department - Sebha University between 1987 and 1993. Then I had been appointed the position of lecturer in the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering - Sebha University, between 1997 and 2001. Then a assistant professor in the Department of Computer Engineering - Al-Zaytoonah University, between 2007 and 2011.

Careers

After joining the Faculty of Information Technology, University of Tripoli, I took over the management of the faculty affairs office in the college, then the head of the Quality and Performance Evaluation Department, then head of the Networks Department, then the vice dean of the college and its current dean, and the former director of the University's Documentation and Information Center.

I also chaired the Faculty Curriculum Development Committee (2013), which resulted in the development of existing programs and the development of new programs. Which is the currently running study plan. And I was a member of the University of Tripoli ranking committee. Also, held the position of Head of the Computer Engineering Department at Al-Zaytoonah University and a member of its Publication, Authoring and Translation Committee.

Research Interests

As a professor at the College of Information Technology, my research interests focused in general on finding technical solutions to problems that are still an area of study and scientific research. I worked in the fields of artificial intelligence, especially natural language processing, namely Arabic, expert systems and neural networks. And by virtue of my specialization in computer networks, I have interests in the areas of quality of service in networks, routing algorithms and networking protocols. I also have contributions in the field of cybersecurity, in particular encryption algorithms, network security and information security.

External Activities

Within my research interests, for several years ago, I practiced evaluating theses to obtain a higher degree (Master’s) as an external examiner. And perform scientific evaluation tasks for research submitted for publication in international and local journals, research submitted for presentation in international and local conferences. Also, membership in committees for evaluating projects and ideas submitted for local competitions. In addition, I am a founding member of the Libyan Association for Automation and Robotics and head of the editorial committee of the magazine issued by the association.
