Tripolitana Medical Journal (TMJ)

TMJ is a peer-reviewed medical journal published by the University of Tripoli. The journal includes in its membership faculty members from the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medical Technology, Faculty of Dentistry, and Faculty of Nursing.

The name Tripolitana Medical Journal (TMJ) was suggested by the Italian professor Reberto Della-Logia, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Trieste – Italy.
The journal was founded and submitted to Al-Fateh University of Medical Sciences (formerly) by Prof. Dr. Abdurazag Abdussalam Auzi on June 30, 2008.
It was officially established in 2009 by a decision from the presidency of Al-Fateh University of Medical Sciences (formerly), represented by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Al-Arabi. A publication license was granted by the Director General of the Publications Department under resolution No. (07) 1377 W.R.

  • It obtained the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN 2077-5628) in 2009, making it one of the first peer-reviewed journals in Libya to receive this accreditation.
  • The first issue was published in 2012, and more than 26 issues have been released since.
  • It was officially recognized by the University of Tripoli in 2016 under resolution No. (08) as one of the accredited journals.
  • The journal publishes articles in English, two volumes per year.
  • In 2023, a new editorial board was formed by the University President's resolution No. 808.

Journal Objectives:

  1. Publishing scientific research in various medical and pharmaceutical fields and technologies.
  2. Publishing specialized studies addressing public health-related negative phenomena in the community.
  3. Publishing results of applied research in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Medical technology, and Nursing.
  4. Disseminating scientific news, discoveries, and outcomes of R&D in medical and pharmaceutical sciences and related equipment.
  5. Publishing results of masters and doctoral theses.
  6. Publishing working papers and scientific contributions presented at seminars, scientific meetings, conferences, workshops, and accompanying scientific exhibitions.

General Editorial and publishing policies

 After initial scrutiny for journal compatibility, all submitted manuscripts that strictly follow the format and style of the journal as mentioned in the Guide to Authors section, and are written in correct English, will be subjected to double blind review by several peers in addition to consideration by the editorial staff.  Manuscripts that have not fulfilled the above criteria will not be returned to the author(s) unless requested explicitly.

Once we receive the text, we will inform the author via email.

The decision is conveyed to the author within a month. If it takes longer, the author will be informed by email.

Contributions are accepted on the sole understanding that:

  • the authors have obtained the necessary authority for publication;
  • all co-authors have given consent to the publication of the article (the publisher assumes that the senior or corresponding author has specifically obtained the approval of all other co-authors to submit the article to this journal); and
  • the submitted article is not being considered for publication elsewhere, either in print or in electronic form.

TMJ Paper Review Policy and Methodology:

  1. Preference for a double-blind peer review system ensuring complete confidentiality between the authors and reviewers.
  2. The author is notified of the review result within a maximum of one month.
  3. The review process takes 15 days; if no response is received, the paper is forwarded to another reviewer.
  4. Authors must respond to the review committee’s recommendations within a months at most.
  5. Upon preliminary acceptance, it is not allowed to add co-authors to the paper.
  6. The editorial board has extended authority to intervene in review reports if contradictions are found within or among the reviews.
  7. The journal retains reviewer comments for legal purposes, if required.
  8. Anonymity is maintained, especially in case reports.

Publication Policies and Regulations in TMJ:

  1. Strict adherence to the journal’s publication guidelines for scientific papers, articles, and case reports.
  2. Plagiarized or duplicate submissions are not accepted.
  3. Only high-quality papers with direct relevance to medical sciences are published.
  4. Confidentiality in the review process is maintained by both the authors and reviewers.
  5. Compliance with scientific publishing standards recognized by Western national universities.
  6. Emphasis on applied research that yields tangible benefits.
  7. Encouraging innovative studies and avoiding repetitive or derivative work.
  8. Focus on electronic publishing in parallel with print versions.
  9. Creation of a faculty database in all medical fields for reviewer recruitment.
  10. Commitment to continuous journal development.
  11. Combating academic plagiarism and coordinating with institutions to ban violators from publishing.
  12. Inclusion of distinguished researchers in the journal’s advisory board.
  13. Encouraging contributions from national experts abroad.

Research Ethics and Scientific Publishing:

TMJ complies with the scientific research ethics guidelines as issued by the University of Tripoli.

 Reviewer Recruitment Policies for TMJ:

  1. Standardizing the structure of reviewer reports, focusing on: subject relevance, contribution to the field, clarity of writing, citation accuracy, reference currency, and adherence to scientific research methodology.
  2. Updating the reviewer database with CVs and statistical data on peer review performance.

Rights and Responsibilities of TMJ Authors:

RIGHTS:

  1. Immediate publication upon acceptance.
  2. Confidentiality of the acceptance or rejection outcome.
  3. Three copies provided to the contributing authors.
  4. Protection from unauthorized use of research outcomes.
  5. Intellectual property rights are upheld.

Responsibilities:

  1. Adherence to TMJ publishing guidelines.
  2. Commitment not to submit the paper to another journal during the review period.
  3. Declaration that the paper is original and not plagiarized; legal responsibility for violations applies.

Commitment not to present the paper at conferences without proper reference to TMJ.
