Guidelines to Authors
The TMJ is published biannually by University of Tripoli - Libya. The journal accepts articles that conform to its scope and editorial standards. The scope encompasses various disciplines of medical and pharmaceutical sciences and related clinical subjects that are of interest to practicing physician, pharmacists, dentists and other health professionals. The journal publishes original research articles, review articles, short communications, case studies and letter to the editor. Abstract of meeting symposia, will also be considered for publication. All submitted papers are subject to extensive review by the editorial board and by a panel of referees.
Reviews: Can be solicited by the Editor in Chief, or unsolicited. Full-length state-of-the-art articles or mini-reviews providing a short overview of a particular topic are acceptable. When submitting a Review article, authors should preferably consult the Editor in Chief in advance.
Original full-length research articles: Should present original, complete, substantial and significant results of any investigation of a topic belonging to any of the areas mentioned above.
Short Communications: Allow preliminary but significant and concise reporting
of results in any areas as stated above.
Manuscripts should be neatly typed, double spaced throughout, including tables, on pages of uniform size with at least 2.54 cm (1 inch) margins on all sides. Footnotes in text are not permitted. All contributions MUST be written in English.
All manuscripts (Review Articles, Original Full-length Articles and Short Communications) MUST include the following:
Title Page: The title page should contain a complete title, full names of all authors,
complete affiliations of all authors and a running title (not more than 50 characters including spaces). The corresponding author must be indicated using an asterisk, and telephone, fax and e-mail address of the corresponding author must be provided.
Abstract: An abstract not exceeding 400 words (for Short Communications around 200 words) should be provided typed on a separate page.
Key words: At the bottom of the page containing the abstract, 3-5 keywords separated by a semicolon should be given. The words found in the title need not be given in key words.
Body of the text: For Original Full-length Articles, the text should be organised into sections, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgements, References, Figure legends, Tables and Figures. Each section MUST start on a new page.
Tables: should be numbered using Arabic numerals and cited in the text. They
should be self-explanatory and clearly arranged. Table(s) should not duplicate information already included in the text or figures.
Figures: must be numbered using Arabic numerals and cited in the text.
They should be in editable format. Legends for each figure may be typed on a separate page. Reproduction of Figures in colour will have to be approved by the Editor in Chief, and the authors may need to contribute to the cost of reproducing colour figures.
References: citations of literature in the text must be presented in numerical order using superscripted number. The references should be listed according to
this numbering at the end of the paper in the reference section following the style shown below.

Only papers and books that have been published or in press may be cited;
unpublished manuscripts or manuscripts submitted to a journal but which have not been accepted MUST not be cited. The author is responsible for the accuracy of the references.
Manuscript submission
All contributions MUST be written in English and usually submitted in triplicate (one
original and two copies) to the Editor-in-Chief. However, authors may also submit their manuscripts as PC-compatible and editable MSWord documents by e-mail to the following address: [email protected] or to the editorial board.
