Research Interests
Based on my interest in intellectual property rights, which was part of my master’s thesis, and stemming from my doctoral dissertation that dealt with online contracts, I continued researching electronic contracts made with performers. A new type of contract has emerged where performers contract with websites to sell their performance rights for a nominal fee, even though their performance may end up being sold for thousands or millions of dollars. In these contracts, performers waive their intellectual property rights, which reflects significant material unfairness that may qualify the performer to annul the contract according to the traditional concept of substantive unfairness in civil law.
