Ahmed Zaid is one of the staff members at the department of Biochemistry faculty of Medicine. He is working as a since 2012-09-01. He teaches several subjects in his major and has several publications in the field of his Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Dr. Zaid is currently active with postgraduate students at his department by supervising a number of them. Dr Zaid was the Vice Dean of Scientific affairs at the Faculty of Medicine for 3 years between 2015 and 2017.

Careers

Dr Zaid is the Chairman of the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology for the last 10 years beside he was apointed as a Vice Dean for the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tripoli from 2014 to 2017.

Research Interests

Autosomal dominant hypercholesterolemia (ADH) is characterized by elevated LDL - cholesterol levels leading to coronary heart disease. Four genes are implicated in ADH: LDLR, APOB, PCSK9 and APOE. Our aim was to identify new mutations in known genes, or in new genes implicated in ADH. We use different methods like PCR, DNA sequencing, electrophoresis, RT-PCR, HRM and Bioinformatics to identify new mutations that can cause the human disease Familial Hypercholesterolemia.
