Roles
Dr. Sana Taher Musa Ashur has taught at the Department of Family and Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Tripoli since 2018, first as a lecturer, then as an Assistant Professor, and currently as an Associate Professor. Her teaching has largely focused on biostatistics, research methodology, behavioral sciences, and healthcare management at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has also provided several courses on advanced biostatistics, mastering data analysis using SPSS, and critical appraisal of medical research designed for postgraduate students and scholars. Dr. Sana has published several research papers in reputable peer-reviewed international journals. Besides teaching and research, she has contributed to academic administration as Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator of Community Medicine courses in several semesters, Coordinator of the Master's Program in Healthcare Management during its establishment, and a member of curriculum development committees.
Careers
After obtaining her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Tripoli in 2000, Dr. Sana began her academic career as a Demonstrator at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tripoli, where she served from 2000 to 2006. During this period, she also worked as a general practitioner in the Libyan health sector. In 2006, she was awarded a scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies at the National University of Malaysia (UKM), where she obtained a Master of Community Health Science in 2011 and a PhD in Community Medicine in 2016.
Following her return to Libya, Dr. Sana joined the Department of Family and Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Tripoli, as a Lecturer in 2018. She was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2021, and currently holds the rank of Associate Professor in Community Medicine.
Research Interests
Dr. Sana's research focuses on non-communicable diseases, particularly diabetes and hypertension, with an emphasis on health behaviors such as medication adherence and physical activity. Her research also encompasses mental health, behavioral epidemiology, and the psychometric evaluation and validation of health measurement instruments. She has a strong interest in epidemiology, biostatistics, and research methodology, with the aim of generating evidence to support public health practice and improve health outcomes. Dr. Sana has published extensively in reputable peer-reviewed international journals and has presented her research at international public health conferences.
External Activities
Dr. Sana has delivered several training courses in advanced biostatistics, data analysis using SPSS, and the critical appraisal of medical research for postgraduate students, clinicians, and candidates of the Libyan Board of Medical Specialties. She has also served as an external examiner and confidential reviewer for master's theses and Libyan Board dissertations. In addition, she participated in the SAHA (raiSe libyAn Higher education heAlth sector for the benefit of local society) project and attended international training programs in Pavia, Italy, and Granada, Spain, focusing on curriculum development and healthcare management education.
