I joined the Department of Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tripoli, at the end of 2019 as a collaborator in the department until October 2023. During this period, I taught courses for the fifth, sixth, and seventh semesters. After completing the transfer and appointment procedures officially, I began working as a full-time lecturer with teaching responsibilities for the department's courses, including lectures and practical classes.
The lectures for the Pathology Department's courses are as follows:
- Fifth semester (Cell adaptation and response to physiological and pathological stimuli)
- Sixth semester (Cardiac diseases such as heart failure and low cardiac output, coronary artery disease and heart attacks, myocarditis and its complications, congenital heart diseases, and heart tumors, as well as endocrine diseases, including those affecting the pituitary, thyroid, adrenal glands, and pancreas, covering diseases of increased or decreased gland secretion and their body effects, as well as gland inflammations and tumors)
- Seventh semester (Nervous system diseases including cerebrovascular diseases like strokes or hemorrhages, inflammation, especially bacterial inflammation, meningitis, neurodegenerative diseases, Alzheimer's disease, brain tumors and cancers, and congenital diseases)
The practical classes in the department's lab and museum are as follows: Every week, three groups of students, approximately 60 students per group, for six weeks. For this semester, I am teaching the practical classes for fifth-semester students as follows:
- Cell injury and adaptation
- Acute and chronic inflammation
- Benign and malignant tumors (cancers)
- Circulatory system diseases
Additionally, this year I started scientific research in collaboration with the Oncology Department at the Central Teaching Hospital on ovarian cancer, and I hope to complete the research by the end of this year, God willing. Other tasks I perform in the department include:
- Academic supervision of a group of students.
- Coordinator of the postgraduate studies committee. Permission has been granted to start a postgraduate program for awarding the higher degree (Master’s), and we are in the process of obtaining the technical license to complete the approval.
- Coordinator of documentation and information, responsible for sending the required data each semester, such as staff statistics (number, position, duties in the department, and academic qualifications) and student statistics (number and pass rates).
In addition to the above, I am responsible, along with the department head and some faculty members, for managing exams for all semesters, reviewing exams, monitoring during the semester, handling appeals, discussing with students, and announcing results. I also have two days a week reserved for office hours to review the latest research in the field of pathology, conduct research and develop lectures, and respond to student inquiries.
