Roles
Salah Elbaruni is one of the staff members at the department of Medical Laboratory sciences at the Faculty of Medical Technology.
In 2011, he gained a PhD in Molecular Pathology (Cancer Stem Cells Group), Trinity College Dublin and Coombe Women's and Infant's University Hospital (TCD), (Thesis: Analysing expression of genes and miRNAs during early differentiation leads to knockdown and overexpression of Tgf-b pathway in Embryonal Carcinoma Stem Cells). In 2003, he completed a Masters (MSc) in Molecular Microbiology, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. In 1991, he was awarded a B.Sc Degree of Medical laboratory science, Faculty of Medical Technology, Al-Fateh University, Libya.
Following his B.Sc Degree he worked in a Medical Diagnostic laboratory in Al-Gelaa Hospital and he achieved experience in Blood bank Lab, Haematology Lab and Biochemistry Lab. When he worked five years in Histopathology Diagnostic Lab, he achieved experience in specimen dissection, and preparing a paraffin tissue process and cytology sample process (fixating, embedding, microtome cutting and staining tissue sections and immunohistochemistry).
During his PhD and Master, he have gained hands on experience of a wide variety of Molecular Biology and Molecular Microbiology in Coombe Women's and Infant's University Hospital, St James Hospital and Beaumont Hospital Research Labs including Gene knockdown and over expression, Plasmid, RNA isolation and cDNA synthesis, Polymerase Chain reaction (PCR), Nuclear Protein Extraction, Western blot, Genotyping, flow cytometry, Plasmid DNA preparation, Biofilm assay and microscopy techniques.
In addition, he have achieved Molecular Biology Technique and Lab Safety and Scientific skills, Primary cell culturing, Cell counting and Cell Transfection was one of the most techniques he achieved during his time in Coombe Women's Hospital Research Lab and St James Hospital Research Lab.
From 2012 to 2023, his experience was extended to undergraduate and postgraduate student as a full-time Lecturer in University of Tripoli and Libyan Academy in Libya, covering Histopathology, Medical Genetics and Cell Biology subjects. Also he supervised graduation thesis's and MSc students and published some publications.

Research Interests
He participated and supervised many research papers, exceeding 25 research papers. He also supervised 21 graduation projects for students of the Medical Laboratories sciences Department at the Faculty of Medical Technology. He supervised 2 master’s theses at the Libyan Academy for Postgraduate Studies in Tripoli and was an external examiner for 2 master’s theses at the Libyan Academy for Postgraduate Studies in Tripoli.
External Activities
Lecturer at the Libyan Academy for Postgraduate Studies for the subject of Medical Genetics from 2017 to 2023.
Member of the Committee for Activating and Implementing the Cooperation Agreement between the University of Tripoli and the Libyan Center for Biotechnology Research from 2022.
