Roles

Soraya works as a part-time lecturer in the Horticulture Department, focusing mainly on the specialty of ornamental and garden design. Since Soraya is a protected lecturer and assistant lecturer in the department for the subjects of garden design and landscaping and medicinal and aromatic plants, she works as a coordinator for the department’s Quality Committee, and she works with a qualified team within the department to reach publication. The culture of quality and its inculcation began with identifying the national and educational culture of the prestigious college in Tripoli. In addition to her educational duties, Soraya works as a member of the Research and Experiments Committee, which are essential skills added to a college such as agriculture that relies on the formation of presidencies to implement alternative work. Her mission is to encourage people to contribute in the public horticultural activities and to share all her knowledge with them.

 

Before joining the teaching profession at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Tripoli, Thuraya worked as a civil activist in the field of the environment. She led several community environmental projects focusing on biodiversity and environmental education. She also received many training courses in the field of capacity development and the environment. Soraya was involved and participated in many meetings and forums for more than one organization at the local, regional and international levels, such as the World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and she gained the Islamic award for environmental management in 2022 at the sector of women work.

Soraya is interested in ornamental plants, medicinal and aromatic plants, including their propagation, cultivation, and various plant species. Moreover, landscaping is a priority for her research and interest

Soraya participated in many external activities, including as a committee member for a project to raise the capabilities of local Libyan associations, in addition to working as a project manager in cooperation with the central municipality of Tripoli, the municipality of Qarboulli, and the Ministry of Environment, for example. Volunteer work with non-governmental organizations was also at the core of her work.In the future she looks forward making valuable change in national and regional agricultural awareness in which related to environment and food production.
