Roles
Dr. Zakia Deeb dedicated her professional life to raising the standard of education through the roles she held, including Head of Translation Departments at both university and postgraduate levels and Dean of School of Languages, beginning with her appointment as a teaching assistant in the English Department at the University of Tripoli and continuing until she was awarded a professorship. Along with teaching a variety of language, research, and translation courses and overseeing graduate theses and capstone projects at the university level, she also made every effort to promote a culture of learning and inquiry among students. At the University of Salford in the United Kingdom, Professor Deeb obtained a master's degree in applied linguistics and translation. He also holds a PhD in translation from the University of Newcastle in the United Kingdom. Her unique communication abilities were cultivated as a result, and she was given several jobs both at the university and outside of it. Below are some:
1. Faculty member at the Department of English Language - University of Tripoli (1987 - 2017). During that period, she cooperated with various Colleges and institutions to teach the English language subjects, among them: Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry, the Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, the Higher Institute of Nursing, and the Higher Institute of Computers.
2. Supervision of master’s degree theses at the Academy of Graduate Studies.
3. Participation in master’s theses discussion committees in the branches of the Libyan Academy.
4. Evaluation of scientific production for the purpose of promoting faculty members at Libyan universities.
5. Participation in arbitrating research papers in the Journal of the College of Languages/ University of Tripoli.
6. Participation in the Intercultural Translation Symposium 2005, Libyan Academy.Founding the Translation Department at the University of Tripoli's Faculty of Languages is the most significant accomplishment for which Dr. Deeb may be recognised. The Translation Department has successfully produced top-notch graduates for the employment market thanks to its esteemed students and meticulous professional oversight. Since the department's establishment, students have actively participated both inside and outside of the university, receiving compliments and certificates of recognition from both local and foreign organisations under the direction of Dr. Zakia Deeb.
