Roles
Mr. Jamal Abu Mais has been a lecturer at the Faculty of Arts, University of Tripoli, since 2000, in the Department of Dramatic Arts. His research interests focus on theater. Mr. Abu Mais has also served as Head of the Department of Decoration and Techniques at the Faculty of Arts, in addition to his work as a lecturer in the Department of Dramatic Arts programs, including acting, directing, criticism, writing, set design, and theatrical performance techniques.
Careers
Career:Even before graduating from the Faculty of Arts and Media, Department of Theater Arts (currently the Faculty of Arts and Design, Department of Dramatic Arts), Dr. Jamal Abu Mais participated in numerous theatrical productions, totaling over thirty. He has also participated in numerous radio and television productions, most notably the series "On the Margins of History" and "Story and Verse," as well as television series such as "Diaries" and "Harebis in Ramadan." He also co-hosted a children's program, "Birds of Hope," which he prepared and presented. He has also participated in several drama series, including the series "Amara," the television film "Boats of Death," and the operetta "The Epic of the Path of Freedom."
Research Interests
He has received numerous awards and honors, including the Best Actor Award at the 2016 Baqaa International Festival in Sudan, a Certificate of Distinguished Performance from the 2017 Alexandria International Festival without Production, and a Certificate of Excellence from the 2019 Cairo Days International Monodrama Festival. He has participated in several workshops in his field of specialization with trainers from France, Japan, Egypt, Tunisia, and Greece. He also participated in a workshop in cooperation with the French Cultural Center and a workshop in cooperation with the Arab Theater Authority in Tripoli.
External Activities
He also served as Head of the Department of Theatre Arts in 2015. During that period, the department participated in a performance under his supervision for the first time, winning two awards: First Acting Award and Scenography Award.
He then earned his PhD from the Department of Theatre Studies, Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University, Egypt, in 2023.
He currently works as a lecturer in the Department of Drama Arts, Faculty of Arts and Design, University of Tripoli.
Research Interests:
Dr. Jamal Abu Mais has focused on acting and directing training from the early stages of student study in the Department of Drama Arts, with the aim of building confidence in students, which increases as they progress through their studies.
Publications:
1. A Master's thesis is currently being published, titled "Western Influences on the Art of Theatrical Acting in Libya during the Second Half of the Twentieth Century - An Applied Study."
2. A PhD thesis is currently being published, titled "Monodrama Performance in Contemporary Libyan Theatre - Methods and Techniques."
