Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, and may blessings and peace be upon the most honorable of the prophets and messengers, our master Muhammad, and upon all his family and companions.  And after,,

 The Department of Islamic Sharia is one of the academic departments in the College of Law. Its professors supervise and teach the Sharia subjects prescribed to the college’s students.

 The department's independence is embodied in the specialization of its student members at the postgraduate level, given that all of the college's scientific departments do not graduate students affiliated with them at the undergraduate (bachelor's) stage.  The department’s professors teach graduate students specialized subjects in the stage leading to obtaining a higher degree (Master’s degree) as well as in the precise degree stage (PhD) after the College Council approved the proposed new program for teaching them. The department has made contributions in this aspect, represented by granting doctoral and master’s degrees to many  Researchers.

 In carrying out its educational mission, the Department of Islamic Sharia aims to form students with a dual culture and to prepare cadres qualified to decide on disputes that may arise related to this specialization, so that they have - first - an adequate understanding of the nature of the science of Islamic jurisprudence, and its relationship with society and human activities, by presenting its issues in a comprehensive manner.  It has as much clarity as it has depth, and it has as much originality as it has innovation, then by employing the method of balancing and contrasting the topics of Sharia and law, in a way that highlights the effort of our jurists and their role in developing global thought in relation to legislation, and confirms the originality, distinction and independence of our Islamic jurisprudence, and shows its fertility.  Its breadth and ability to keep pace with development and face everything new;  Leading to the establishment of jurisprudential issues that represent for Muslims the legal system that embodies the rules of Islamic interaction between individuals and between groups and countries, so that the heart of every seeker is reassured of the truth, and responds to any questions or skepticism that some may raise in this regard, especially since we are at a stage in which we hope that our Islamic law will be  Tolerance is at the forefront of our legislation, and despite this, we must benefit from every good thing we find in the legal thinking of any nation, and in this way we perform part of our duty towards our law and religion.

Vision

The department's vision is summed up in scientific research and the educational process in the field of legal sciences in its various branches, providing this community with outcomes that preserve its status for justice, by applying the legal rule in its highest form, so that everyone may take refuge in the justice of the judiciary and the rule of law, in addition to developing personal capabilities in a competitive environment that rises to the highest level.  The college ranks among the international colleges.

Mission

The mission of the department is part of the mission of the university and college, as it seeks to serve the Libyan community and develop it intellectually in the legal field. It also seeks to create scientific competencies with a pioneering and effective role in accordance with quality standards, especially programs related to legal activity, encouraging creativity, keeping pace with research progress, familiarity with scientific and cognitive foundations, and raising the level of  Performing to standard levels in terms of professional and ethical behavior to ensure its quality and activating communication with researchers and corresponding colleges to benefit from the expertise of others.

Graduating specialized scientific competencies in the field of legal sciences that contribute to the development of society.

 Contributing to providing advisory services in the field of law to all administrative units and public companies.

 Providing society with legal cadres seeking to be the basis for the formation of a judicial elite that contributes to achieving rights and establishing the balance of justice in society.
