Professor Abdulhamid Altubuly, who is a member of the teaching staff at the Department of Microbiology and Medical Immunology, has been teaching immunology courses to students of the College of Medicine since 1999.

Immunology is a branch of biomedical sciences that is concerned with studying the functions of the human immune system, basically natural and acquired immunity of the body to resist foreign bodies, as well as the study of laboratory methods that include the interaction of antibodies with foreign bodies that may have penetrated the human body, mainly germs such as bacteria or viruses. Also the study of malignant tumors and their escape from the immune surveillance system.

Professor Altubuly has also been teaching postgraduate students in the department since Year 2000 and also supervising a number of master's and doctoral dissertations.

Careers

After obtaining his high school diploma in 1986 from Zawiyat Dahmani High School in Tripoli, Professor Abdulhamid Altubuly obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery Bachelor’s degree in 1992 from the University of Tripoli, formerly Al-Fateh University, and obtained a master’s degree in 1994 from the University of London, UK. In 1997 Professor Altubuly obtained a PhD in medicine from the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial Medical College, University of London, UK.

In 1999, Professor Altubuly  joined the University of Tripoli as a member of staff as a Lecturer, after which he was appointed an Assistant Professor status in the year 2001, then an Associate Professor in 2004, after which he obtained the degree of full Professorship in the year 2008.

Professor Altubuly is one of the founders of The Libyan Journal of Medicine in 2006 and is a member of the British Society for Immunology since 1995.

Research Interests

Professor Altubuly is interested in several topics related to the problems and diseases of the human immune system, such as hypersensitivity of the respiratory system including hay fever, and the relationship of pollens to these diseases. Furthermore, Professor Altubuly has interests in studying the causes and spreading factors of malignancy in humans.

Professor Altubuly has several publications and has published several Medical books related to his specialty, medical immunology.

External Activities

After obtaining his PhD degree from the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Imperial Medical College, University of London, United Kingdom, in 1997, Professor Altubuly worked as a supervisor and course organiser for postgraduate students at the Department of Medical Immunology, Hammersmith Hospital in London.

During his work at the department of Immunology and Microbiology, Tripoli University, Professor Altubuly worked as an external examiner for medical students at several Libyan universities such as the Arab Medical University in Benghazi, The Sebha University, The Misrata University and other medical schools since 2004 to date.
