Roles
As a teaching staff member in the Department of Internal Medicine, Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tripoli, my mission is to provide high-quality education to students and guide them towards a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of psychiatric disorders, their diagnosis, and treatment. I work on developing curricula that keep pace with the latest advancements in the field of psychiatry, focusing on delivering educational content that balances theory and practical application.
I deliver lectures and organize workshops aimed at enhancing students' skills in dealing with psychiatric patients, including effective communication techniques and various psychotherapeutic methods. I also ensure students are involved in research activities, guiding them to conduct studies and research that contribute to a deeper understanding of psychiatric disorders and the development of new therapeutic approaches.
In addition to teaching, I supervise the clinical training of students in hospitals and health centers, helping them apply what they have learned in the classroom to real-life cases. This practical training enables them to gain the necessary experience to effectively and efficiently manage patients.
I also provide psychological support to students, being available to listen to their problems and offer advice and guidance to help them overcome academic and personal challenges. I believe in the importance of building a strong relationship with students based on mutual trust and respect, which contributes to creating a positive and motivating learning environment.
As part of my mission, I participate in scientific conferences and seminars to share knowledge and exchange experiences with my colleagues in the field. I continuously strive to develop my skills and knowledge by staying updated with the latest research and studies, enabling me to provide up-to-date and high-quality education.

Careers
Since June 2006, I have been dedicated to my role as a physician at Al-Razi Psychiatry Hospital in Tripoli, Libya. My journey began as a trainee in the specialty of psychiatry, in association with The Arab Board of Medical Specializations. Over the years, I have honed my skills and deepened my expertise in the field, contributing significantly to the hospital's mission of providing comprehensive psychiatric care.
From June 2019 to February 2023, I expanded my professional horizons by working with the International Medical Corps. In this role, I served as a psychiatrist focused on mental health capacity building for Primary Health Care Centers (PHCCs) under the GIZ project in Libya. My responsibilities included training and mentoring healthcare professionals, ensuring they were equipped with the necessary skills to deliver effective mental health services.
During the academic year of September 2017 to June 2018, I took on the role of a lecturer at the University of Tripoli. I was part of the Department of Instruction and Psychotherapy in the Faculty of Arts, where I shared my knowledge and experience with students, fostering their understanding of psychiatric principles and practices.
Between December 2015 and February 2021, I also provided mental health services at Asarya for Mental Health Service, a private clinic. This role allowed me to offer personalized care to patients, addressing a wide range of psychiatric conditions in a more intimate setting.
In early 2016, I contributed to the Mental Health GAP Action Program in Tripoli, Libya, as a trainer and clinical supervisor. This initiative, part of a project by WHO and the Ministry of Health in Libya, aimed to strengthen mental health services across the country. My work involved training healthcare providers at the Airport Road Polyclinic, enhancing their ability to manage mental health issues effectively.

Research Interests
My research interests in the field of psychiatry are deeply rooted in understanding the epidemiology of mental illness in Libya and promoting good mental health practices. This dual focus allows me to address both the prevalence and distribution of mental health disorders and the implementation of effective strategies to enhance mental well-being across the population.
Studying the epidemiology of mental illness in Libya involves comprehensive research to identify the patterns, causes, and effects of mental health conditions within the community. By analyzing data on the incidence and prevalence of various psychiatric disorders, I aim to uncover the underlying factors contributing to these conditions. This research is crucial for developing targeted interventions and policies that can effectively address the mental health needs of the Libyan population.
One of the key aspects of my research is to identify the social, economic, and environmental determinants that influence mental health in Libya. Understanding these factors helps in creating a holistic approach to mental health care that goes beyond clinical treatment to include preventive measures and community-based support systems. My work often involves collaborating with local health authorities, non-governmental organizations, and international bodies to gather data and implement research findings into practice.
Promoting good mental health practices is another cornerstone of my research. This involves developing and advocating for best practices in mental health care that are culturally sensitive and contextually relevant to Libya. I focus on creating awareness about mental health issues, reducing stigma, and encouraging early intervention and treatment. By educating healthcare professionals and the general public, I strive to foster a supportive environment where mental health is prioritized and individuals feel empowered to seek help.
My research also emphasizes integrating mental health services into primary health care. This approach ensures that mental health care is accessible and affordable for all population segments. Training primary health care providers in health care practices is a critical component of this integration, enabling them to effectively identify and manage mental health conditions.
Through my research, I aim to contribute to the global understanding of mental health while making a tangible impact on the well-being of individuals in Libya. By studying the epidemiology of mental illness and promoting good mental health practices, I hope to pave the way for a healthier, more resilient society.
