Roles

Najib Erhuma is a faculty member at the Faculty of Mass Communication, department of Journalism and Electronic Publishing. He is currently the Vice Dean for Scientific Affairs at the College. Mr. Najib Erhuma has been working at the University of Tripoli as an Assistant Professor since 01-07-2022 and has many scientific publications in his field of specialization. He worked as a coordinator for studies and examinations in the media department from September 2014 to March 2016, after that he was assigned to head the Study and Examinations Department from April 2016 to March 2020, and in the same period he was assigned as coordinator of the Press Division.

From May 2020 until now, he works as a director of the media laboratory in the college, and one of his main tasks is to teach several courses at the College of Mass Communication, the most important of which are communication theories, mobile journalism, personal communication skills, and applications in editing, as well as supervising graduation projects and academic supervision for students.He also chaired many differentiation examination committees for new students, discussion committees, final examination committees, and also the committee for preparing the student guide for the College of Arts and Media.

Careers

Professor Najib Erhuma has worked since his appointment at the University of Tripoli in July 2007 as a teaching assistant in the department of Media, after obtaining the first rank in the 2004-2005 academic year batch, and after obtaining a master's degree from New Mexico State University in May 2012 in the field of media, he was reappointed at the College of Arts and Media with the rank of assistant lecturer, until March 2018 when he was promoted to the rank of lecturer.

In July 2022, after publishing several research papers in his field of specialization and in peer-reviewed scientific journals, he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor.

Research Interests

A researcher in the field of media and journalism, especially digital journalism in particular. He is currently working on the topic of citizenship journalism as it is a new term that appeared recently with the advent of electronic journalism.

He is currently preparing a book on the history of electronic journalism in Libya with Mr. Ahmed Al-Kurd from Al-Asmarya University, and is also in the process of completing some research related to citizenship journalism.

He now has a project to prepare an academic curriculum related to media accountability in cooperation with the German University of Dortmund, accompanied by a group of professors from the Faculty of Media.

External Activities

Professor Najib Erhuma is currently the Vice-President of the Libyan Organization Against Violence and Hate Speech. Also, he is cooperating with the International Organization for Electoral Systems (IEFS) program and the Ministry of Higher Education to create some topics for media coverage of the electoral process and include them in the educational curriculum of the Media Department at the Faculty of Arts and Information.
