Roles

Yousef Abouzeed is one of the faculty members at the Department of Microbiology and Parasitology since 1992-9-1. Yousef's primary roles at the department are teaching and performing scientific research. He teaches several subjects at graduate and postgraduate level including veterinary bacteriology, molecular biology and molecular determinants of bacterial pathogenicity. He has published many scientific articles in international impacted journals. He supervised and co-supervised number of master students.  

Careers

Prior joining University of Tripoli, Yousef worked at the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources for 3 years as veterinarian (DVM) where he practiced small and large animals’ medicine. His Ph.D. and MV.Sc in microbiology and molecular biology have provided him with a strong background in a variety of skills both in veterinary medicine and basic sciences. His Bachelor degree in veterinary medicine offers him a solid understanding of all aspects of veterinary medicine including the etiology and pathophysiology of both infectious and non-infectious disease processes. Yousef held many positions at University of Tripoli including Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Head of the Department of Pathology and Clinical Pathology and the Director of the office of Graduate Studies and Research.   However these positions gave him tremendous experience and the ability to focus and work both independently and in multidisciplinary groups

Research Interests

His areas of research interest are focused on isolation, characterization and antimicrobial drug resistance of bacteria particularly in Salmonella species. He also has interest in isolation of antimicrobial and antioxidant components from medicinal plants.   

External Activities

Yousef is co-editor in Libyan Journal of Veterinary and Medical Sciences. He was a member of scientific committee of Libyan biotechnology research center and has collaboration with Libyan academy of Science.
