She was appointed as a researcher at the Biotechnology Research Center in 2003. She defended her thesis in the field of diagnostics and establishment of methods to use thymidine kinase 1 for veterinary purposes in 2012 from the Department of Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU)/Sweden.

She worked as a consultant in Biomedical Analysis and Diagnostic Biomarker Development for Dogs with Malignant Diseases in 2016-2017 and held the position of Research and Development manager at Alertix Veterinary Diagnostics AB from 2018 to 2024.

Research Interests

Dr. Hanan Sharif has published many scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals regarding the early diagnosis of cancer in companion animals, particularly canine, feline, and equine. She developed and optimized a monoclonal prototype ELISA using antibodies produced against an enzyme that is used as a tumor biomarker in dogs, for which this invention (Anti-dog thymidine kinase 1 antibodies) has been granted a patent.

External Activities

Dr. Hanan Sharif played a role in supervising master's students during her PhD studies and while working as a research and development manager at Alertix Veterinary Diagnostics. This experience involved guiding students through their research projects and helping them develop their skills in veterinary diagnostics and biochemistry.
