Mohamed Fennir is one of the staff members at the department of Agricultural Engineering since 2002, Faculty of Agriculture. Dr Fennir carries on research program in postharvest technologies in general and with focus on storage and preserving quality of dates. His research work applies modified atmosphere (MA) in keeping soft and semi-dry dates.
Careers
Dr Fennir started his work at the department of Agricultural Engineering in 1988 as demonstrator, in 1994 started his graduate studies at McGill University, Canada, he obtained his M Sc in 1997 and PhD in 2002. He joined the department in 2002, since then he has been involved in teaching graduate and undergraduate courses and carrying in research. He acted as departmental chair and graduate studies coordinator several times.
Research Interests
Dr Fennir has research activities in three main topics in agricultural engineering, (1) waste management, amongst supervising MSc thesis in olive oil solid waste, (2) preserving crops in controlled atmosphere, storing figs , Hellawi yellow date, and other date cultivars at Rutab stage. Also, he completed research project funded by the Libyan Authority for Scientific Research on preserving dates in controlled atmosphere.
External Activities
Dr Fennir participated in several scientific activities such as delivering lectures, workshops in several exhibitions in Temenhent ,Darj, Tripoli and Jufra. Also, he initiated the Libyan postharvest national project initiated by the Libyan Authority of Scientific Research and the postharest research laboratory.
