My previous career in food analysis, in particular (dairy lab) at the Industrial Research Centre within standard ISO 17025 has improved my skills in the chemical, microbial, and sensory attributes evaluation of dairy and dairy products. I consider my academic studies of more than 10 years in food science and technology, working at accredited dairy laboratories (ISO17025) and attending several local & international conferences, training courses, and workshops, have developed and sharpened my experience in quality control systems including, HACCP, ISO9001, ISO 22000 and Halal Assurance
Careers
Dr. Osama Mohammed Ben Lagha began his academic career as a teaching assistant in the Department of Food Science and Technology from 2006 to 2009 and then obtained a high degree from the same department - Faculty of Agriculture - University of Tripoli. Where he taught many subjects in the department such as (Oil and Fat Technology - Basics of Food Science - Food Additives - Vegetable and Fruit Processing - Basics of Dairy Science). And academic supervision and graduation projects for students of the Department of Food Science and Technology.
Dr. Ben Lagha received a scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education to study abroad and obtained a doctorate in 2019 from Petra University Malaysia, which is ranked among the 300 universities accredited by quality and higher education in Libya.
Dr. Osama has been working in the Department of Food Sciences as a lecturer during the year 2020-2024 to date as a lecturer for several academic subjects such as (Food Innovation and Development - Vegetable and Fruit Processing - Introduction to Food Science - Food Chemistry - Sugar Technology) He also supervised academic and graduation projects during the years 2020-2024 .. 2025 ..
He was assigned many tasks in the department and the college such as being a member of the scientific committee in the department, a member of the study and examination committee in the department, a delegate from the Community and Environment Office, and a member of the Master's Theses Review Committee at the college.
Currently, Dr. Osama Ben Lagha is teaching courses (Food Innovation and Development - Food Chemistry - Sugar Technology) 2024-2025
Research Interests
Food safety and its relationship with the surrounding environment, health inspection and food control, halal food, active compounds in medicinal plants, and their applications in the food sector.
External Activities
Member of the Food Health Affairs Committee at the Standards and Metrology Center, delegate of the Environment and Community Office at the faculty to coordinate with relevant authorities and cooperation between the Faculty of Agriculture and institutions interested in environmental and food.
