Roles
Dr. Hamza works as deputy dean for scientific affairs. He is a faculty member in the Biology Department in the Faculty of Education. He teaches the subjects of vertebrate biology and the comparative anatomy of vertebrates, in addition to his academic supervision of a group of students in graduation projects. He focuses his research on marine vertebrates such as the Endangered species of cartilaginous fish, seaturtles and seabirds. He leads the department's scientific committee, which deal with the department's scientific and educational affairs and developing the performance of faculty members.
Careers
In 2014, Dr. Hamza joined the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Environment at the University of Terengganu, Malaysia, to work as an assistant professor at the university and teach several courses such as marine vertebrate science, marine ecology, marine biodiversity, global environmental issues, and others, during which he supervised 30 bachelor students and contributed to the supervision The academic program includes several postgraduate students in master's and doctoral degrees. In the year 2022, Dr. Hamza joined the teaching family in the Biology Department, Faculty of Education, University of Tripoli.
Research Interests
Dr. Hamza obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology from the Faculty of Science, University of Tripoli in 1994, and joined the work as a researcher in the Department of Nature Conservation at the Public Authority for the Environment (currently the Ministry of Environment) in 1997. He joined the master’s program in animal science during his work and obtained a degree Master's degree in zoology in 2004. His study was about the environment of freshwater gastropods in Ain Tawergha and its channels, and the effect of the chemical and physical properties of spring water on those species. In the same year, he joined the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, and completed a Master of Research degree in biodiversity and nature conservation, after returning to Libya. In 2008, he received a scholarship to study for a doctorate at the University of Hull, Britain, where his thesis was titled Breeding ecology, migration and population genetics of lesser crested terns Thalassius bengalensis emigrata, and included a detailed study of the breeding environment, migration behavior and community genetics of small crested terns that nest in areas Specific from the Libyan coast, and not found in any other Mediterranean coast.
External Activities
Dr Hamza works as an accredited reviwerfor research published in the scientific journals of the Elsevier network, and is also an accredited reviwer for the Journal of the National Institute of Marine Sciences in Tunisia. He contributed to the launch of several national programs for surveys of migratory waterbirds, Seagrasses and the distribution of the Mediterranean monk seal on the Libyan coasts. He also established the Libyan Program for the Protection of Sea Turtles https://www.facebook.com/LibSTP/, and published several scientific papers and technical reports.
