Roles
Mr. Jamal was a teaching assistant in the Department of Pharmacognosy from 1988 to 1993 before being sent to the University of Krakow, Poland to study for a master's degree in pharmaceutical drugs. He was appointed as a faculty member in the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Pharmacy. From 1997 to 2004, he was an assistant lecturer, then he was sent to the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Britain, to study for a doctorate from 2004 to 2009. He held the position of Head of the Department of Pharmacognosy from 2000 to 2004, then from 2012 to 2016, where he held the position of Vice Dean for Scientific Affairs from 2016 to 2018. Mr. Jamal has been working at the University of Tripoli as a professor of Medical pharmacognosy since 2019 until now, and he has many scientific publications in his field of specialization. He also has participated in many scientific, technical and specialized committees, including the Quality and Curriculum Development Committee and the Scientific Conference and Workshop Preparation Committees.
Careers
I was appointed as a teaching assistant in the Department of Pharmacognosy in September 1989, then I was sent to study abroad to prepare for a master's degree from 1994 to 1997. I then worked as an assistant lecturer in the department until December 2004, when I was sent to Britain to prepare for a doctorate in 2009. I progressed academically from lecturer to professor and held the position of head of the department and coordinator of postgraduate studies in the department for several years. I also held the position of Vice Dean of the College for Academic Affairs from 2016 to 2018.
Research Interests
My research interests include identifying medicinal plants and their importance to the people and comparing them through scientific research findings.
I also supervise project students and master's students in research and development of some Libyan medicinal plants in terms of effectiveness and active ingredients, as well as quality control.
External Activities
My interests include research, awareness and continuing pharmaceutical education through research and scientific institutions, where I have worked with scientific associations both at home and abroad. At home, I have held an official position as President of the Scientific Association of Libyan Pharmacists since the end of 2019 until now. Abroad, I have held the position of Assistant Secretary of the Arab Pharmacists Union for Pharmaceutical Research since October 2018 until now and a member of the Scientific Council of the Arab Pharmacist Board. I have participated in many scientific committees for scientific seminars and conferences in Arab countries. I have been assigned as a consultant in my field of specialization in the Mediterranean Journal of Pharmacy since 2021 until now.
