Since obtaining his doctorate in 1997 from the University of Manchester, UK, Saleh Isslugi has been working as a researcher and lecturer in the department, teaching the general botany course in addition to specialization courses in environmental science for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Careers

Due to his excellence during the university stage, Saleh Isslugi was chosen to work as a teaching assistant in the department, then he was sent at the university’s expense for postgraduate studies at the University of Manchester,UK, from which he returned with a doctorate in 1997 and rose through the career ladder from lecturer to assistant professor to associate professor to professor. During his years of work, he held several positions, ranging from coordinator of graduate studies at the department level to head of the department, then dean of the College of Agriculture, then president of the Libyan Academy for Postgraduate Studies.

Research Interests

Saleh Isslugi is interested in the research on environmental pollution, but research in the field of mushroom cultivation and its applications remains the most exciting area for him. He established the Libyan mushroom farm and trained a significant number of students in the various stages of mushroom production. In coordination with the Small and Medium Enterprises Program, he supervised a training course in the field of mushroom cultivation, it targeted graduates job seekers. His field of interest has expanded recently to include the possibility of cultivating truffles, he supervises several fields in different regions of Libya now.

External Activities

Saleh Isslugi was chosen as a member of the jury of the Arab Cities Award Organization in Doha, Qatar for three consecutive sessions. It is an organization at the level of the Arab world that conducts periodic competitions to choose the best environmentally friendly Arab city. He also established the Libyan mushroom farm and is still managing it since 1998. He collaborated with Finland's Uva Center for Truffle Research to conceive of converting turkey farms into mushroom farms.
