Roles
Prof. Imad Alsuwaih is one of the staff members at the accounting department The Facutly of Economics since 1997. Along the past years he has taught most the subjects of accounting all different levels of the Bachelor's degree. He also lectures for the MA students especially in the subjects of International accounting and taxation. Prof. Imad has been assigned as a member of different committees at the university of Tripoli of which was the a committee in 2022 by the President of the Unversity of Tripoli to prepare an academic plan for the new faculty of economics in Campus C: and a head of a comittee in 2023 to prepare a report about the Faculty of Economics of the University of Tripoli.
Careers
Prof. Imad was Appointed by the Faculty of Economics as an Assistant Lecturer in 1997 and from October 2001 to May 2005 got an MA in International Financial Analysis and a PhD in accounting from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne Business School in the UK. In June 2005 returned to his the Factulty of Economics of the University of Tripoli and his promotions were as the following: 1. A Lecturer in 2007 2. An assistant Lecturer in 2010 3. An Associate Professor in 2015 4. A Full Professor in 2018
Research Interests
Prof. Imad is generally Interested in most of the accounting issues which are related to the Libyan environment; However, he is interested more in the subjects of International Accounting and IFRS in addition to the Islamic accounting. He's got more than 15 published papers on various accounting topics which exhibit his variety of interest. In 2018 has his book "International Accounting" published.
External Activities
2018- 2021: The Libyan Supreme Accounting Bureau,
· a part-time trainer on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in their training programmes to qualify their newly employed graduates.
· a member of a consulting team at developing specific accounting training programmes for newly employed graduates.
· a member of a consulting team at a project of developing the accounting profession in Libya.
2006- Present: The Libyan Academy for Higher Studies, a part-time lecturer teaching International accounting to MA students and recently PhD students.
Feb 2022 - Present: The National Economic and Social Board “NESB”, a member of a consultancy team with assignment of preparing corporate governance frameworks for different types of Libyan institutions
2011 -2015 The National Investment Company “NIC”,
- 2014-2015 appointed as a liquidator of a subsidiary of the NIC.
- 2013- 2014 a member of a consulting committee to the Board.
- 2011 – 2013 appointed as chairman of a subsidiary of the NIC.
2004-2005: The Centre for Lifelong Learning at University of Newcastle upon Tyne and University of Sunderland, England- taught Economics and Business Finance
