The Department of Art Education is one of the departments that was established with the beginning of the founding of the Institute for Teacher Preparation in 1996, then one of the departments of the Faculty of Teacher Preparation in 2004, then one of the departments of the Faculty of Education in 2007, at the Faculty of Education, University of Tripoli, affiliated to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It is one of the leading departments in the college.
The department seeks to spread educational, artistic, and cultural awareness among students and in the social environment through developing the skills of learners in the fields of general art education according to quality standards, and contributing to creating an artistic and cultural reality that is in line with cognitive openness, creativity, and the new civilizational orientation by spreading the culture of artistic educational work and its practice in a way that serves society and contributes to the achievement of small projects.
Over more than 20 years of its educational, scientific, and artistic career, the department has undergone various developments. The department had a pioneering impact on teaching processes and the graduation of large batches of students, in addition to holding internal art exhibitions and participating at an external level, in line with the artistic knowledge revolution and in belief of the need to develop the department to reach graduation quality to keep pace with the present and interact with the latest developments of the future, and to come up with curricula specifically designed to train and prepare art education teachers.
The goal of art education that we seek in schools is to educate the student for a high aesthetic life in the midst of the evolving social framework to which he belongs. Art education, like other subjects, is only a means to achieve the general comprehensive formation of students. Its goal is not to form manual skills only, but to find a kind of complete experience in different stages of education.
The department aspires to open the field for postgraduate studies in the field of art education, develop scientific research in this field, and serve society and the environment.
