The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is one of the three departments established at the beginning of the establishment of the faculty in 1961, and considered as one of its main pillars. it receives remarkable attention and care from the university, due to its vital and effective role and great importance in society. It aims to prepare distinguished technical cadres and qualify engineers in its three specializations:

Communication Engineering - Electrical Power Engineering - Automatic Control Engineering.

Over the past sixty years, the graduates of the department have shown remarkable distinction and impressive successes, whether they are those who joined the local market or foreign companies operating inside or outside Libya, as well as those who joined prestigious foreign universities in developed countries to continue their higher studies towards master’s and doctoral degrees.

The department seeks continuously to develop its curricula and academic programs through the efforts of its staff members and their attempts to keep pace with the massive and rapid scientific development in these important fields, in addition to conducting scientific research and studies and publishing them in well-known scientific journals and conferences in the world.

The department also has effective participation in the telecommunications and electricity sectors in the Libyan state by providing engineering and technical consultancy to companies and institutions operating in these two sectors, as well as holding specialized technical courses for their employees.

Graduating an efficient and responsible consultant engineer who achieves the development of society and achieves its goals to keep pace with modern technical development.

Objectives

1. Good preparation of engineers in the various fields of electrical and electronic engineering who are able to solve professional problems and support the various work sectors with qualified engineering cadres.

2. Developing various technical industries by raising the level of engineers and technicians in the fields of electrical and electronic engineering.

3. Keeping abreast of modern technical developments and developing educational programs in the field of electrical and electronic engineering.

4. Providing specialized scientific consultations, training engineers, and developing engineering education.

5. Providing opportunities for higher and specialized education in the field of electrical and electronic engineering, and achieving local and international academic accreditation.

6. Developing and encouraging scientific research and communicating with industrial and productive institutions.
