ARMONIA Project

The ARMONIA Project is an international cooperation initiative funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ programme. It aims to develop and modernize the higher education system in Libya by aligning academic programmes and improving education quality in accordance with European standards. The project is implemented through a partnership of academic institutions and official bodies, working to enhance academic compatibility, support student mobility, and improve the international recognition of university qualifications.

Project Objectives
The project seeks to align Libyan curricula with European systems, particularly the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), in order to facilitate academic recognition and student mobility between universities. It also aims to enhance the quality of higher education by adopting modern standards for teaching and assessment, and to improve graduate employability by aligning skills with labour market needs.

Modernizing Higher Education in Libya
The project focuses on updating academic programmes and teaching methodologies in line with educational practices adopted by European universities. This contributes to improving learning outcomes, strengthening institutional capacity in Libyan universities, and supporting academic innovation and continuous curriculum development.

Partnership and Participating Institutions
The project is implemented through cooperation between Libyan higher education institutions and international partners. Participating Libyan institutions include University of Zawia, Omar Al-Mukhtar University, Sirte University, and Tobruk University, in addition to the Libyan Academy for Graduate Studies and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. These institutions collaborate with international partners to strengthen academic cooperation, transfer knowledge, and support educational policy development.

Expected Outcomes
The project contributes to improving the international recognition of Libyan degrees, enhancing student mobility, and raising the quality of academic programmes. It also supports the development of a higher education system that is more compatible with European standards, thereby strengthening opportunities for international cooperation and reinforcing the role of higher education in national development.

Governance and Implementation
The project is managed by a consortium of partner institutions working collaboratively to implement activities and achieve project objectives. This includes supporting educational policy development, organizing training activities, and providing platforms for academic learning and cooperation.
