field trip

Mr. A.D. led Al-Taher Bosrewell, the distinguished geologist, field trip to the Gharyan region today, Friday, 10.02.2023, under the supervision of Mr. Prof. Osama Ahmed Helal, Head of Geology Department.

To study volcanic flows in the Gharyan region, which is part of a volcanic field covering about 3000 square kilometers, extending from Gharyan to Bani Walid.

The students studied the rock formations and identified the field relations in addition to the geological structures and the impact of the complex tectonic processes that the region was exposed to during the different geological times in several places, namely:

Kaf Takout - Kebdat Al Jamal Road - Wadi Bouchiba - Burshada Road

The effect of water on volcanic flows to form pyroclastic rocks was identified and the stratigraphy and sedimentary structures thereof were studied.

The types of sedimentary structures and different sedimentary facies were also identified for the formation of Bouchiba (Triassic) and its sedimentary environment.

In this regard, the Department of Geology, represented by the faculty members and students, would like to extend its thanks, gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Prof. Dr. Al-Mabrouk Al-Taher Boussrouel for his efforts and his keenness to complete the scientific program of the field trip in very difficult winter conditions.

May you always be our great teacher.
