Field trip to the Department of Geology

Within the framework of the efforts made by the Department of Geology at the Faculty of Science, University of Tripoli, to implement field work programs, which is one of the basics of geology and which comes within the pursuit of achieving the goals of field geology.  The most important of which is developing the skills of the field geologist and providing comprehensive education in field (field) geology on the basis of research excellence under the supervision of the following gentlemen:

Mr. Dr.  Khaled Mohamed Aoun, President of the University

 Mr. Dr.  Mabrouk Taher Bossruel

Mr. Dr.  Osama Ahmed Helal, Head of Geology Department

The department organized a field trip on Friday 03/03/2023 to the regions of Al-Azizia - Gharyan and the surrounding areas.

These areas included Ras Al-Saadaniyeh - Ras Al-Maazul - Wadi Ghan Dam, during which the phonolite rocks located with the Al-Azizia Formation in Ras Al-Saadaniyya were studied, as well as the rift system of Wadi Ghan, which starts from the rift between Ras Bats and Ras Qudeih, and a number of parallel rifts that formed Ras Al-Mazul.  Kersh dome and continues to Wadi Gan.  Volcanic flows were also identified in the Ghan Valley Dam area, and the students studied the rock formations and the field relations, in addition to the geological structures and the impact of the complex tectonic processes that the region was exposed to during different geological times.

The network of valleys that make up the drainage system of the Ghan Valley was also identified and how the basalt flows affected the valley's change of its old course as a result of the blockage of the old course with basalt flows in the course of the Ghan Valley.

At the end of the field program for the fall semester 2022/2023, the Department of Geology, represented by the gentlemen: the head of the department, faculty members, and students, would like to extend its thanks, appreciation, and gratitude to Mr. Prof.  Khaled Mohamed Aoun, President of the University, for his efforts that he made and is making, and his keenness to complete the scientific program of the field trip, despite his extreme preoccupation and the many tasks entrusted to him.

We also do not miss to extend our thanks, appreciation and respect to the professor of the generation, Prof. Dr.  Al-Mabrouk Al-Taher Boussrouel for his efforts and support for the field program, and Mr. Field Trip Coordinator in the department, Dr.  Najeeb Salem Bin Musa for his keenness and dedication in implementing field studies programmes.

May God protect you as a beacon of knowledge, and may knowledge giving continue to be a companion in our scientific journey.
