The English Department is one of the most important departments at the Faculty of Education at the University of Tripoli. It is important because it provides a distinguished academic and educational environment that works in accordance with the standards and quality systems set by the National Center for Quality Assurance of Educational and Training Institutions in Libya. The department seeks to evaluate and improve its performance on a regular basis in accordance with its improvement and development plans. Its history is full of academic achievements and outstanding contributions in graduating distinguished cadres that feed the needs of elementary and secondary education schools for qualified cadres who are able to teach English efficiently. The department employs a group of faculty members, 27 of whom hold advanced degrees, who participate in a high-quality learning and teaching process and in building an integrated and pioneering knowledge base. The interests of faculty members, whether research or teaching, are diverse and rich, which helps to graduate students with a high level of language that enables them to provide the best in the labor market and serve the community. The activities of students and their performance are also praised and appreciated at the level of the faculty and its external environment by stakeholders.

The English Department works to provide an environment that helps students acquire the required skills from integrated education and training in the fields of language, literature, and translation through the use of the latest internationally developed academic programs in the field of teaching methods, strategies, and assessment. This is reflected in the performance of students during their practical education period, the preparation of graduation projects, and the transferable skills that appear during their professional performance upon graduation. Graduates of the department also enjoy high competitive opportunities in the field of employment or acceptance into graduate programs in many local, regional, and international universities.

In addition to the Bachelor of Arts program in English, the department is currently preparing to launch a graduate program (Master of Arts) in the field of education and teaching English. This is based on the scientific and research competence of its teaching staff and their multiple experiences in the fields of teaching English. The program will combine theory with practice by focusing on the professional educational skills required in the labor market. This distinguishes the program from other programs at Libyan universities, as it is the first of its kind in this field.

The department continues to provide positive change and excellence, and the department is proud of its achievements and outputs, God willing.

Providing a high-quality academic and educational environment to prepare and train future generations of male and female teachers who are qualified and equipped with advanced skills that enable them to teach and participate effectively and positively in a wide range of fields in a manner that meets the needs and aspirations of Libyan society.

Mission

Providing educational, research, and community services that comply with national quality standards; through the preparation and training of qualified cadres in the field of English language and its sciences, and this is through providing distinguished academic programs that are characterized by creativity in education, teaching, scientific research, teamwork, cooperation, and interaction, and providing students with scientific and practical skills and critical thinking skills that guarantee them success in their professional life.

Objectives

(1) Preparing qualified educational cadres in the field of teaching English. (2) Developing students' abilities in various linguistic and educational skills through courses that meet the requirements of the era by using modern teaching technologies. (3) Training students on organized teamwork with team spirit and contributing to providing effective community and environmental services. (4) Developing students' abilities for creative thinking, self-assessment, and critical thinking skills. (5) Training students on preparing research and reports in the field of language teaching and problem solving.
