Entisar Elsherif is a faculty member at the Faculty of Education Tripoli, University of Tripoli, Libya. She is currently the Head of Research, Consulting and Training. She holds a PhD in English (Composition and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and an MA in Applied Linguistics and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Newcastle University. Elsherif has participated in many regional, national, and international conferences. She also has experience in teaching English in Libya and the United States of America. Elsherif is a passionate teacher-researcher who believes in the role TESOL plays in empowering English language learners to become active members of their society and messengers of peace, social justice, and positive change. Her research interests include English language teacher preparation programs, English language teaching, CALL, and writing and plagiarism.
As a Libyan teacher-scholar, her main role falls under two areas: teaching and research. In the field of teaching and learning, she has used modern teaching and assessment methods that empower students and lead them to creativity. She avoids the traditional pattern that relies on exams only and provides students with different forms of assignments that prepare them for their future tasks as English language teachers and enable them to face the professional challenges that they may face. She also aims to prepare them to be effective members of teamwork.
Elsherif believes in her important role in spreading awareness about quality and the importance of research in the advancement of education and the Libyan society. From this standpoint, she contributed to working with the team of the Research, Consulting and Training Department to raise the level and quality of research in the College of Education, Tripoli, and then in the University of Tripoli.
The tasks she has undertaken since joining the teaching staff of the College of Education, Tripoli, can be summarized as follows:
- Head of the English Language Department (2007 - 2009)
- Head of the Research, Consulting and Training Department (2019 - 2022)
- Study and Examination Coordinator (2009 - 2010)
Careers
Before joining the teaching staff at the Faculty of Education Tripoli, Dr. Elsherif taught English for more than 18 years at the Libyan secondary schools of Tajoura and Abu Maliana. She participated in preparing the final exam questions in the schools in which she taught, and in correcting and evaluating the answers to the final exams of the secondary school diploma at the state level.
After transferring to university education and joining the English Language Department at the College of Education Tripoli, she taught several courses that aimed at developing the English language as well as courses that aimed at preparing qualified English language teachers. She also taught at universities and English language centers during her study I the US, one of which was Miami University Middletwon.
Elsherif enjoys teaching a wide range of courses. But what she enjoys the most are courses that are related to teaching writing and using technology in teaching and learning English.
Research Interests
Elsherif’s research interests mostly focus on the field of teaching and learning the English language in general and the TEFL/TESOL teacher education programs of the faculties of education in particular. Her research interests can be summarized in the following areas:

External Activities
One of the most important activities that Dr. Elsherif takes seriously is her work as a reviewer/referee. She reviewed/refereed papers for several local and international conferences and Libyan scholarly journals. Dr. Elsherif contributed to updating and developing the TEFL teacher education curriculum and program as a committee chair and as a member of several committees (2007 - 2010 - 2021 - 2022). She has also participated in several conferences as session chair/moderator. During her work at Miami Middletown University, she participated in a PD course that aims at raising the efficiency of faculty members and obtained a certificate. She also participated in online courses. She also taught several IELTS courses and conducted courses and workshops at the Research, Consulting, and Training Center at the University of Tripoli.
